Description
Exodus® for deworming horses is a pale yellow paste containing pyrantel pamoate in an apple-flavoured base. Pyrantel pamoate is a compound belonging to the tetrahydropyrimidine family. It is a yellow, water-insoluble crystalline salt of the tetrahydropyrimidine base and pamoic acid with 34.6% base activity.
Active Ingredient
Each 23.6 g single dose syringe contains the equivalent of 3.6 g pyrantel base sufficient to treat one 544 kg horse.
Each 47.2 g multi-dose syringe contains the equivalent of 7.2 g pyrantel base sufficient to treat two 544 kg horses or several smaller horses or ponies.
Exodus Paste (47.2 g) Indications
For the treatment of parasitic infections caused by the adult stage of large strongyles (Strongylus vulgaris, S. equinus, S. edentatus, Triodontophorus spp.), small strongyles (Cyathostomum spp., Cylicostephanus spp.), pinworms (Oxyuris equi), ascarids (Parascaris equorum) and the common tapeworm (Anoplocephala perfoliata) in horses, ponies and foals over eight weeks of age.
ADMINISTRATION: Exodus® is administered orally. Fasting prior to or following treatment is not required.
The following method of administration is recommended:
1. According to the weight of the horse set the dose ring at the correct position on the weight-scale marked on the plunger.
2. Remove the cap from the syringe.
3. The paste is best distributed on the upper surface of the tongue. Introduce the nozzle end of the syringe at the corner of the mouth (through the interdental space). Direct the syringe backwards and depress the plunger to deposit the paste onto the tongue. Raise the horse’s head by a hand under the chin to assist in the swallowing
process.
4. If only part of the paste has been used (see Cautions), replace the cap on the syringe nozzle and store in a cool dry place.
DOSAGE: Administer at the rate of 6.6 mg pyrantel base per kg of body weight for infections of roundworms (nematodes) and 13.2 mg pyrantel base per kg body weight for infections of tapeworms (cestodes). This dosage can be achieved by administering the product according to the following schedule:
