Dura-Start 50 Caution
Follow label directions. The addition to feed of higher levels of this premix containing selenium is not permitted.
Not for human consumption. Wash hands after feeding/handling animals. Wash feed/water containers after use.
MIXING DIRECTIONS
Add one 16 oz. pouch of Dura-Start 50 powder to 1.5 qt. of clean, warm water at 110-120°F and mix thoroughly until completely dissolved. Allow the solution to cool to 90-100°F before feeding. Mix thoroughly with a wire whisk. Important: Make fresh solution daily. In times of stress or hot weather, electrolyte supplementation may be needed.
To Supplement Maternal Colostrum
Follow the mixing directions above. Within two hours of birth, feed the solution along with at least 2 quarts of clean, disease-free maternal colostrum using a nipple bottle. Provide a second feeding of colostrum 6-12 hours later. Once your calf is 24 hours old, start feeding calf milk replacer.
To Replace Maternal Colostrum
If your calf is unable to nurse, separated from its dam or will not receive maternal colostrum for any reason, we recommend using Dura-Start 100. To provide adequate nutrition with Dura-Start 50, follow the mixing directions above but mix two pouches into 3 quarts of water instead. Feed the resulting solution using a nipple bottle. Most calves will easily consume this volume of colostrum by nipple. If not, cool the colostrum for 2-3 hours and then re-warm to 100°F and offer again with a nipple. Provide one to four additional colostrum feedings in 6- to 8-hour intervals following the first feeding. After 24 hours, begin providing calf milk replacer.
Offer fresh water at all times.
Important: Follow feeding directions. Every calf is an individual. The directions above are written for a calf that is about 75-100 pounds at birth. Adjust the amounts fed according to the calf’s body weight, the environmental conditions and the level of calf disease on your farm. Consult with your veterinarian if you have questions.
