Chlamydia Abortus Bacterin

This treatment applies to the following species:
Company: Colorado Serum

This product has been shown to be effective for the vaccination of healthy ewes against Ovine Enzootic Abortion, commonly known as enzootic abortion of ewes (EAE). Chlamydia abortus (Antigenic Type 1) is the organism responsible for the disease. This product was licensed prior to the requirement to establish a minimum age for use. Safety in pregnant animals is unknown. For more information regarding efficacy and safety data, see productdata.aphis.

This product is an aqueous suspension of inactivated cultures of Chlamydia abortus, abortigenic serovar, emulsified with a mineral oil adjuvant.

Directions For Use

Do not vaccinate within 60 days before slaughter. Shake well before use. Use entire contents when first opened. Store at 2°-8° C. Do not freeze. Do not mix with other products.

DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION: Inject 2.0 ml subcutaneously in the upper part of neck 60 days prior to breeding. Repeat the dose in 30 days. The duration of immunity is unknown. Historically, annual vaccination is recommended. Contact veterinarian for advice.

Anaphylactoid reaction may occur following administration of products of this nature. If noted, administer adrenalin or equivalent. Use of products containing oil adjuvants may result in formation of a transient or more permanent granuloma of small to moderate size. In case of human exposure, contact a physician.

OTHER INFORMATION: This product contains thimerosal as a preservative.

The disease is contagious and normally spreads through oral or nasal contact, ingestion, or inhalation of contaminated material. Isolate the aborting ewes and consult with your veterinarian on recommended treatment, proper disposal of aborted fetus/placenta, and disinfection procedures. Surviving ewes may become carriers.

Limit access to aborted materials by wild birds and wild or domestic mammals, which can carry the bacteria to other locations. Provide feed in bunks off the ground to reduce fecal contamination. Assure that the water areas are not contaminated. Workers should use personal protective equipment to help avoid cross contamination.

Conveniently packaged in 10 dose and 50 dose sizes.
