How long does it take for Aricept to work?
Aricept (donepezil) may start improving cognitive function within 3 weeks, with full effects typically seen after 4–6 weeks. It works by enhancing memory and language skills, as measured by the Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale-Cognitive Subscale (ADAS-Cog).
How Can I Tell if Aricept Is Working?
As Aricept begins to work, you may remember things easier and be able to concentrate better. It might also become easier to manage daily activities such as:
- Bathing
- Dressing
- Eating
- Using the bathroom
Aricept does not cure Alzheimer’s disease, and its benefits vary. Some people experience significant improvements, while others notice only mild or no effects.
What If Aricept Doesn’t Seem to Work?
If you haven’t noticed an improvement in your symptoms after taking Aricept for 4-6 weeks, let your doctor know. They might be able to raise your dose to see if that helps, or recommend a different treatment option.
