GENERALLY AVOID: Coadministration of oral methionine and activated charcoal may reduce the efficacy of methionine in the treatment of acetaminophen overdose. The mechanism is absorption of methionine by activated charcoal in the stomach.
MANAGEMENT: Concomitant use should either be avoided, or the activated charcoal should be cleared from the stomach before methionine is administered.
