Applies to: folic acid/heme iron polypeptide, ferric derisomaltose
GENERALLY AVOID: Parenteral iron therapy may reduce the absorption of concomitantly administered oral iron preparations.
MANAGEMENT: Parenteral iron preparations should not be administered concomitantly with oral iron preparations. Patients should wait at least 5 days after stopping parenteral iron therapy before taking oral iron supplements.

MONITOR: Ethanol may increase folic acid elimination and folic acid absorption is decreased in chronic alcoholics. Excessive alcohol consumption may lead to folate deficiency.
MANAGEMENT: Monitoring of patient response to folic acid supplementation if they also consume alcohol regularly may be recommended.
