Drug Interaction Report
2 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- dexlansoprazole
- Edurant (rilpivirine)
Interactions between your drugs
dexlansoprazole rilpivirine
Applies to: dexlansoprazole, Edurant (rilpivirine)
Using oral rilpivirine together with dexlansoprazole is not recommended. By reducing the acidity level in the stomach, dexlansoprazole can decrease the absorption and blood levels of oral rilpivirine and make the medication less effective against HIV. Talk to a healthcare provider if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor or pharmacist may be able to recommend alternatives that do not interact (or interact to a lesser extent) if you require treatment for stomach acid or ulcer while you are being treated with oral rilpivirine. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Drug and food interactions
rilpivirine food
Applies to: Edurant (rilpivirine)
Food significantly increases the absorption of rilpivirine. You should take each dose of rilpivirine with a meal. Taking it on an empty stomach may lead to inadequate blood levels and reduced effectiveness of the medication. Grapefruit juice can also increase the absorption of rilpivirine and should preferably be avoided.
Therapeutic duplication warnings
No duplication warnings were found for your selected drugs.
Therapeutic duplication warnings are only returned when drugs within the same group exceed the recommended therapeutic duplication maximum.
