MiFEPRIStone may increase the blood levels and effects of galantamine. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. Contact your doctor if you experience increased side effects (e.G., nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, changes in heart rate, seizures, trouble breathing, salivation, tearing, sweating, dizziness, trouble urinating) or if your condition changes. You should also drink plenty of fluids throughout the day to reduce the severity of certain side effects related to galantamine. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Food increases the blood levels of this medication. If you are only receiving one or two doses, you may take it without regard to meals. However, if you are receiving the medication for long-term treatment, you should take it with food at the same time everyday to maintain consistent blood levels and effects. Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment, as it may increase blood levels of the medication to undesirable levels and increase the risk of side effects, including headache, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, cramping, diarrhea, hypokalemia (low blood potassium), fluid retention, swelling, and high blood pressure. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

Galantamine should be taken with food, and you should drink plenty of fluids throughout the day to reduce the severity of certain side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and/or weight loss. Extended-release formulations should be swallowed whole (i.E., do not crush, chew, or divide the pill) and are often recommended to be taken in the morning. You should speak with your healthcare provider before using grapefruit products (fruit, juice, supplements) with galantamine as they may increase the blood levels and side effects of galantamine. You should also contact your healthcare provider if you experience changes in your heart rate, seizures, difficulty breathing, trouble urinating, dizziness, fainting, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and/or unexpected weight loss. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
