Drug Interaction Report
2 potential interactions and/or warnings found for the following 2 drugs:
- fluconazole
- Talicia (amoxicillin / omeprazole / rifabutin)
Interactions between your drugs
fluconazole omeprazole
Applies to: fluconazole, Talicia (amoxicillin / omeprazole / rifabutin)
Fluconazole can increase the blood levels of omeprazole. This may increase side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and flatulence. During long-term treatment, you may also have an increased risk of developing osteoporosis, bone fractures, and a condition called hypomagnesemia (low blood magnesium), which in severe cases can lead to muscle spasm, irregular heart rhythm, and seizures. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact, or you may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
fluconazole rifabutin
Applies to: fluconazole, Talicia (amoxicillin / omeprazole / rifabutin)
Using fluconazole together with rifabutin should generally be avoided, if possible. Combining these medications can significantly decrease the blood levels of fluconazole, which may reduce its effectiveness in treating fungal infections. In addition, fluconazole may increase the blood levels of rifabutin, which could increase the risk of side effects such as low white blood cell counts, joint pain, skin discoloration, and inflammation of the eye. Talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
