Setmelanotide Disease Interactions

There are 2 disease interactions with setmelanotide:

Setmelanotide (Includes setmelanotide) ↔ depression

Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applies to: Depression

Adult and pediatric patients treated with setmelatonide may experience worsening depression and may have the emergence of suicidal thoughts and behavior. Patients should be monitored appropriately and observed closely for worsening depression, suicidality or changes in their behavior. Therapy discontinuation should be considered if patients experience suicidal thoughts or behaviors.

Setmelatonide (Includes setmelanotide) ↔ renal impairment

Moderate Potential Hazard, Moderate plausibility. Applies to: Renal Dysfunction

Setmelatonide is not recommended in patients with moderate (eGFR 30-59 mL/min/1.73 m2 ) and severe renal impairment (eGFR 15-29 mL/min/1.73 m2 ) and end stage renal disease (eGFR less than 15 mL/min/1.73 m2 ).

Drug Interaction Classification

These classifications are only a guideline. The relevance of a particular drug interaction to a specific individual is difficult to determine. Always consult your healthcare provider before starting or stopping any medication.
Major Highly clinically significant. Avoid combinations; the risk of the interaction outweighs the benefit.
Moderate Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minor Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
Unknown No interaction information available.
