Guanidine Disease Interactions
There are 2 disease interactions with guanidine.
Guanidine (applies to guanidine) bone marrow suppression
Major Potential Hazard, High plausibility. Applicable conditions: Bone Marrow Depression/Low Blood Counts
The use of guanidine has been rarely associated with dose-related bone marrow suppression, sometimes fatal. Therapy with guanidine should be administered cautiously in patients with preexisting bone marrow suppression. Monitoring complete blood cell counts (CBC) and differential counts at baseline and periodically is recommended. Discontinue guanidine if bone marrow suppression occurs. Patients should be instructed to immediately report any signs or symptoms suggesting bone marrow suppression, such as fever, sore throat, local infection, bleeding, or symptoms of anemia.
Guanidine (applies to guanidine) renal function disorders
Moderate Potential Hazard, High plausibility. Applicable conditions: Renal Dysfunction
The use of guanidine has been associated with exacerbation of renal dysfunction. Therapy with guanidine should be administered cautiously in patients with preexisting renal disease. Monitoring renal function regularly is recommended.

Moderately clinically significant. Usually avoid combinations; use it only under special circumstances.
Minimally clinically significant. Minimize risk; assess risk and consider an alternative drug, take steps to circumvent the interaction risk and/or institute a monitoring plan.
