"I am an HBV carrier since probably birth and started taking various anti-HBV drugs about 20 years ago. These drugs include Epivir-HBV, Baraclude, Tyzeka, Hepsera, Viread, and Vemlidy. While all drugs keep the HBV virus level down and some to less than 10 IU/mL or even to undetected, my body developed resistance to Epivir-HBV, Baraclude, Tyzeka, and Hepsera after a period of usage. Tyzeka was upsetting my stomach so much that I had to stop taking it. Viread was good in keeping the virus level to sometimes undetected, but my kidney function was impaired. My creatinine levels went up to as high as 1.5 mg/dL. In December 2016, when Vemlidy was approved by the FDA, my doctor prescribed it for me, and I have been taking it every other day since. My creatinine level went down to between 1.26 and 1.33 in the next 1.8 years. But recently, my creatinine level is creeping up again to as high as 1.5 mg/dL. My eGFR is down to 52 mL/min/1.73. I am concerned that Vemlidy is having a side effect on my kidney."
