For High Blood Pressure "I’ve been on this for close to three weeks. I’m on a low dosage, like the 10 mg twice a day. I also have hypothyroidism, which I’ve had for close to seven years. Apparently, I’ve developed high blood pressure and went to the doctor for a squeezing pain in my left arm, and when I did cardio, my legs felt like they were unthawing from frostbite, so he put me on this medication. I honestly don’t know how to feel about it, other than I’m so tired all the time and have zero energy, but keep in mind my thyroid is also messed up. I can feel a huge difference in how tired I am. When I tried to wean myself off it, it’s making it worse. Don’t know if it’s truly helping or if I should change my medicine. I’m 29 years old, have a personal trainer, and I’m very active, so I’m praying that I can get off this medicine soon."

For Performance Anxiety "I've found these to be very effective in stopping my panic attacks and feelings of anxiety, however, I've felt quite tired, generally lacking a level of energy, so think I might cut down from 3 times a day to 2. But overall, good :)"

For Anxiety "I’ve suffered from persistent anxiety and panic attacks in recent years. Just started Propranolol in the last year or so, and it’s been a predominantly positive experience for me, with very few mild side effects. I did have some grogginess/tiredness, particularly at the start. One thing I would warn about is drinking while using Propranolol. I carried on drinking for a while and mixing the two, and it is not recommended (both Propranolol and alcohol lower your blood pressure, which can give you some unpleasant side effects and also made my anxiety way worse)."

For Anxiety "Been on propranolol 20 mg in the morning for 3 days now. I’m really worried about the bad side effects, but it has brought my heart rate down. I just feel tired all the time, and my eyes are sore. Hope this goes away soon. Hasn’t helped with my anxiety yet. Got to give it a chance to work, I guess."

For Performance Anxiety "This propranolol medicine is good. I am a musician, a singer. I don't have much problem when performing on stage for a song or playing my musical instrument, but if I have to make a presentation at work, I will be terrified and will think about it for days because of bad experiences with panic attacks and extreme anxiety, palpitations, dizziness, etc. Make sure you know the right dosage for you and don't take it with other hypertension meds because it will lower your blood pressure. I took 20 mg 1.5 hours before my presentation, another 20 mg 1 hour before, and 10 mg 15 minutes before. It didn't really calm me down, I still felt a bit of anxiety during my presentation, but I was scared to take more because of the aftereffects of lower pulse, blood pressure, dizziness, tiredness, and a little wheezing throughout the day, which I experienced before."

For High Blood Pressure "Absolutely dreadful. Was on these for high blood pressure as well as others, and this one was awful, made me so tired and depressed, not worth it. Read the comments to find out why? Plus weight gain, horrific."

For Anxiety "I've been experiencing work-related stress, and it's become so bad that I started experiencing dizziness, chest pressure (like something constantly weighing on my chest), and exhaustion (my ex, with whom I live, referred to me as a zombie!). I contacted my GP today, and she had prescribed 40 mg Propranolol, which I started taking tonight. I have to be careful as I'm asthmatic, but I seem okay so far. The medication started working within the hour. (Psychosomatic?) I definitely felt calmer and happier!! But now it's 1 am, I'm hyper, can't sleep, and my anxiety has returned tenfold. Does the medication tend to work for longer as you build up the dose? Or does it always wear off after a few hours?"

For Arrhythmia "20 mg up to 2 times daily. Completely stopped my PACs/PVCs at first, but the tiredness and anxiety made it not worth using in most cases. Effect also seemed to wear off if used too frequently. I might ask the cardiologist for a beta blocker that only works on the heart (e.g., metoprolol) to see if it reduces side effects."

For Migraine Prevention "I've found as I've gotten older that I've become increasingly sensitive to propranolol in terms of my heart rate. I started at 40 mg LA, switched to 10 mg twice a day when retired. That was putting my heart rate in the 50s, so I've switched to 5 mg twice a day. I'm a retired RN, so keeping an eye on my HR. If you're tired on propranolol, check your HR. When I first started taking propranolol, I remember remarking that I had never known what it felt like to be calm inside until starting it. For me, that's what helped with migraines. But it's just one of a number of daily meds I take for migraine, including lamotrigine and topiramate. Lamotrigine is also for bipolar 2, which I have. I've taken a lot of ibuprofen over my life for migraines but have stopped because it has affected my kidneys. I've taken triptans at times when I worked. So in my experience, propranolol has had its place in treating my migraines but is far from being the only medicinal treatment I needed."

For Anxiety "Take propranolol at 40 mg when especially anxious. It does take the physical symptoms away, and the only drawback is it makes me feel tired, and I end up yawning a lot!"

For Anxiety "I would not advise taking propranolol for anxiety. It made me have bad blood circulation pains in my legs, paranoid, cold hands, cold feet, very tired. Just take anxiety tablets instead."

For Migraine Prevention "Propranolol has reduced the frequency of migraines during the past 8 months that I've been on it. However, it makes me so tired and 'out of it' that I'm lethargic...so I've put on 15 pounds and I never want to do anything! I can't stand this awful side effect. I'm 46, female, and now weigh 160. Was at 145 before propranolol. The size large pants are getting tight. I'll be in XL soon if I stay on this medication. It doesn't help that I'm also on Lyrica since one month ago (so now I'm even MORE tired and confused!) Tried Topamax in the past to prevent migraines. It did help in my 30s, but not in my 40s."
