For Hypoparathyroidism "Before Natpara, I was considering declaring disability because I could no longer function adequately in my role as a professor. The brain fog was so bad that I could not finish sentences, and I was getting lost when driving in my neighborhood. The fatigue limited me to one activity per day. I could go to the store, or I could cook, or I could clean the kitchen, but I could not do more than one activity. Now I can work and still engage in some activities. The brain fog is almost completely gone. I have noticed some diarrhea when I start using a freshly mixed syringe. I still have some cramping in my hands and feet-especially about 18-24 hours after my injection. I am so grateful to have Natpara. I got my life back!"

For Hypoparathyroidism "I developed hypoparathyroidism after the 2013 thyroidectomy for goiter with compressive symptoms. Pre-op PTH 79 and post-op 7, then undetectable. My body was literally freezing up, brain function slowed, total body/facial numbness/fatigue consumed me, seizures, horrific bone pain, flu-like myalgia, even with perfect management of medications and good lab results, but I was barely functional. I started Natpara on June 10, 2015, and began a thawing process. My thought processes improved, but there was unexplained damage from the years with no parathyroid function. Please, I hope endocrinologists will study the permanent impact of this disease on patients. I manage a medical practice, and with Natpara, I can tolerate very limited activity, age 59."

For Hypoparathyroidism "My thyroids were taken out because of papillary carcinoma. In the process, the doctor mistakenly took my parathyroid. Have been taking lots of calcium carbonate and calcitriol since 1995. The endocrinologist put me on Natpara. Side effects: horrible headaches, numbness in hands, superswollen legs, insomnia, joint pain (knees), horrible depression, irritability, diarrhea. Ended up in the hospital with pulmonary embolism, and a week later, bronchitis. Read that this medication was not tested on people over 67. I am 72. Also, I had 2 different cancers. One of the side effects of Natpara is osteosarcoma. Why would a doctor put me on this? I also read that hormone treatment medications can cause blood clots. Whether this one falls under that category... I don't know. In view of Natpara being so new, I discontinued it. I hope it helps other individuals, in the meantime, I am back to my 5400 mg of calcium carbonate and calcitriol. P.S. The cost of it is outrageous."

For Hypoparathyroidism "I have been on Natpara for about 3 years, after a botched total thyroidectomy for a benign nodule on my thyroid. Prior to the surgery, I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism, very high PTH levels, so the inexperienced surgeon looked also for a parathyroid adenoma. The result was that I lost normal parathyroids and was still left with an adenoma parathyroid. For several years, I suffered from hyperparathyroid symptoms which are similar to hypoparathyroidism. After removing the remaining overactive parathyroid, I became “hypo.” I am on 25 mcg of Natpara and I am responding well to this PTH replacement. I do not like the inconvenience of the refrigeration requirement, especially while traveling. Unfortunately, now there is a problem with Natpara, some rubber particles are getting into the medication during injection. I hope they will fix this problem ASAP."

For Hypoparathyroidism "I'm doing really well on this med. Calcium levels have stabilized! Off Rocaltrol after one week on the med. Just, it feels like it wears off too soon. Would like to see twice daily dosing."

For Hypoparathyroidism "This drug has changed my life in just 5 days. I can think again! Feel again! Have a life again and be a productive member of society! I do feel that it starts to wear off around 18 hours after dosing."
