"Ma huang tea completely controls asthma for me, after western drugs albuterol, montelukast, beclomethasone did not stop worsening shortness of breath to point of disability. In normal dose it has zero side effects for me. Like any effective pharmaceutical, overdose or abuse will cause problems! Use for asthma: 1/2 teaspoon whole herb in mesh infuser (as used for loose tea leaves) in 1 cup (8 oz.) water, microwaved on high for 2 minutes and steeped for 10. Discard herb and do not reuse. Take as divided doses for one day, such as half cup in morning and half at night, or may divide into more, smaller, doses for one day. May be sweetened with sugar, may be refrigerated. Do not exceed dose! Do not grind or concentrate herb! Western asthma medications work poorly for a large number of asthma patients, and this is a safe and economical alternative! I have safely used this herb for 7 years, I am 68 years old."

"For those using a tea made by boiling ma huang stems, it must be understood that dosage can vary widely based on preparation of source material. There is no way to determine the composition of active components in a cup of ma huang tea. There is no standardization. Side effects such as BPH, acute prostatitis, insomnia and glaucoma are highly to moderately possible with use of ma huang by susceptible individuals. I have been using ma huang for herbal supplementation without a diagnosis which warrants its use. Results were mixed and inconclusive. But, having personally become aware of adverse medical conditions precipitated by ma huang, I would advise consumers to avoid it."
