Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "First two days: Experienced fever, vomiting, diarrhea, fatigue, bruising at the injection site, and a general feeling of sickness. Days 3-6: on and off fever, major bruising at the injection site, back pain, and fatigue. Days 7-14: pain at the injection site, mild fever, mild fatigue, and loss of appetite. Will not use this vaccine next year. The egg-based Fluvirin does not cause these symptoms in me."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "The drug store really pushed the high dose for anyone over 65. My husband had a severe reaction 1 hour after the vaccination. He slumped over in his chair and was extremely hot. He fainted, although he did not lose consciousness. We went to the doctor, who told us they would not carry this high dose due to the side effects. It is a live vaccine. I would caution anyone about taking this."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "Received the Fluzone High-Dose vaccine 2 days ago. Shortly after I got home from the Dr, I became dizzy and felt faint. That evening, I felt shaky, dizzy, anxiety, achy, and very emotional. Only slept 2 hours. The next day, I felt better as the day went on and slept 10 hours. Now, this morning I’m dizzy with diarrhea. Next year, going back to the normal single dose. Injection site is still red and swollen. Interesting, when I called my Dr, he indicated I had the same shot last year with no side effects. This year’s vaccine must be different. Never again."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "October 8, 2021, I received the HD flu vaccine for the first time. I am 71 and in good health. After 6 hours, I developed a headache and severe muscle and joint pain. Terrible back pain and couldn't sleep. Low-grade fever the next day and still aching, headache. I will never get this type of vaccine again. Never had a problem with the regular flu vaccine."

"I usually get a flu shot every year. I'm 4 more years away from getting the high-dose, so I received the standard IM flu vaccine 3 days ago. Usually, I do get headaches from flu vaccines because of the thimerosal in it. Friday night after getting it, my headache slammed in, and this year the flu shot brought in heavy waves of nausea. Come Saturday, my arm was throbbing with pain not so much on the outer area of my arm but deep into my muscle where the vaccine is. I never have this much pain. Quite honestly, for some reason, it hurts like I had a Tetanus injection instead of the flu. It's Sunday, and the pain increased again... Sunday brings movement of my arm or laying on it to quell the nausea, very sharp pain the whole time of movement, lifting, or sleeping on it (I'm a side sleeper). I can't imagine why this year's vaccine caused so much nausea and pain for a simple injection. It seems to have flared my asthma a bit as well."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "I’m 61 and had Flucelvax for the first time on 10/7. I had only mild symptoms until 48 hours later. Then extreme fatigue, fever, body aches, nasal congestion, headache, very sore injection site with swelling/redness. This threw me for a total loop because all of my previous flu vaccine reactions have occurred the day of my shot. I was up sweating all night with a 102 fever and still feel weak today."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "I have been very sick for days following this shot. High fever, chills, terrible body pain, heart racing, and some of the worst headaches of my life. I won’t be getting the flu shot again. I was perfectly fine when I went in, four hours after the shot, I was in terrible pain and not in my arm."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "I’ve taken the flu shot in the past before, but I knew something was wrong when I took it this year 10/14/2020! I was given Fluarix Quadrivalent by my RNS. Since 10/14, I’ve experienced right eye pain, right arm muscle and joint pain, right leg muscle and joint pain, fatigue, swelling at the injection site, leakage from the injection site, rhinitis, coughing, syncope, and dizziness! I have all these lovely things I didn’t have before this disgusting flu shot! I’ve documented events! And I have involved my family and friends! My supervisor told me to go to my doctor! And I was wondering to myself what are they going to do exactly??? But blame it on something else I don’t have! Oh, I forgot to mention the pain won’t subside with APAP 1grm and IBU 800mg!"

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "Received Fluad at 2 pm. Felt tired. Woke up at 3 am and face swollen from below cheeks to above eyes. Eyes nearly swollen shut. Took 50 mg Benadryl, had rescue inhaler and cool gel ice packs and kept up with Benadryl. Taken flu shots for 50 years, never had that happen! Scary."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "Received a shot of Flucelvax on Feb 18, 2022. About 24 hrs. later, I began to feel nauseous and tired. I was sort of up and down. It was exactly like having the flu. It lasted for six or seven days. I am 74, I stopped all medications to verify that my illness was caused by the flu shot."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "Long time, 20-year physician assistant. I am studying influenza for my PhD, which is almost complete. Also have an MPH. Got the flu injection last Monday, and my normal pattern is 5 days in, I get that invisible sickness we tell everyone they 'can't get,' and it's all in their heads. But this time - I have not been well enough to go get a COVID test (it was believed I had it in April, I got very ill, lost taste and smell very dramatically (before we knew it was a symptom), but the older test came back negative, and they quarantined me for 12 days. This flu shot at 5 days - I am now at 7 days post-injection. I cannot sleep, my legs ached beyond anything I have ever felt, and the last 2 days my head feels like it is popping off - but I know headaches, and this one is VERY flu-like. I am miserable and have to report to NYC health, Manhattan, for a paid gig helping in the COVID surge this week in the ER and ICU as I have been out of work since being laid off due to the damn virus. So I have to will myself better."

"Got this vaccine on Friday, Nov. 2nd, 2022. Then let's just say 6 hours after the injection, I developed a cough with horrible chest pains. Then later that night, I got nauseous and couldn't lay down to sleep, or else I would vomit. On Saturday, I had bloodshot eyes, and my joints and muscles ached so bad I had a low-grade fever that didn't go down. Saturday night, I was able to lay down and sleep, but Sunday morning, bad headache along with a bad cough still. This was an inactive vaccine, so I had no idea why I got so sick from it. I seem to be getting better now, so hopefully this was worth it."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "The night of injection, couldn’t sleep. Next day couldn’t move. Felt like I was hit by a truck. Finally got out of bed and sat on the couch. So much pain I couldn’t move. Two days later, still in so much pain. Can’t lift my arm. Too weak to walk. The pharmacist warned that I’d feel like I got punched in the arm, but it’s much worse. I canceled my plans for the entire week because I don’t know when I’ll feel better."

We both became ill right away with flu symptoms, still suffering from vomiting and hair loss. My husband has lost most of his hair, and my hair since the shot has thinned dramatically."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "My doc told me to always get the flu and pneumonia shot. In the past, I almost died from pneumonia, hospitalized for a month. So every year, I go and get the high dose for flu. I'm a 68-year-old. I'm almost at death's door, almost. Every time I even went to the ER several of those times, the ER doc asked if I got the flu shot and I said yes. I asked him why I feel so horrible when I was vaccinated against the flu, and his reply was at least it kept you from dying! Well, I couldn't wrap my head around this. So the very next year, which was 2021, I went and got another flu shot that year. Well, believe me, I'm done with them, I'd rather take my chances. Last year, at the height of the pandemic, I thought okay, I better get some protection. It wasn't long until I fell ill with nausea, 103 fever, agonizing headaches, and muscle aches. Called the doc, said oh it could be COVID, get tested... no local testing available. So I quarantined at home. I know it was the flu and not COVID, no coughing, no SOB. Never again!"

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "I have had Flublok 3 times over the past several years. First time beginning in 2016. I swear by this vaccine. While I do get mild flu-like symptoms when I first get the vaccine, those symptoms go away in 12 hours (normally I go to bed and then I feel fine the next morning). I went to a lecture about this vaccine- it teaches the body to 'look' for flu proteins, which is why it has a higher prevention rate of the flu even when it is mismatched. I have not gotten the flu since I began getting Flublok."

"A few days after having the flu vaccine, I had night sweats, body aches, feeling very tired, not well at all. A month later, when I went to the GP, they said I had polymyalgia. I was healthy and very active prior to the vaccine. This was six years ago, of which I have been on prednisone of various dosages all these years, and this causes problems health-wise too."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "While I did feel sick after the nasal flu vaccine one year, the flu shot itself never made me sick until this year. I still don't understand it. I usually feel a little dizzy the day of and a little run down for a couple days or so, but this time I felt pretty sick. The day of, I had moderate dizziness, which I attributed to lack of sleep and not eating when I had gone for a doctor's appointment where I opted to get the shot when they offered it. I kept explaining it away until the next day when I started having mild flu symptoms. I had the flu before, so I know what that's like. These symptoms were very minor compared to having the flu. I felt feverish, chilled, sore throat, body aches, no appetite, nausea. Still, advocate flu shot though."

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "Have never had an adverse reaction to the 'flu injection' in over 10 years. However, the FluLaval injection caused me to experience extreme (and very sudden) weakness. My arms and legs felt like they weighed 100 lbs. each. Had to sit down with my head on my arms for about 30 minutes, after which, with help, I made it to my bed, where I lay feeling very weak for 2 or 3 hours and finally fell asleep. Felt much better in the morning - though a bit weak for about an hour or so. Will not be taking the FluLaval injection again."

"I had the influenza injection Thursday at 7:45 pm. On Friday, the shot spot was hard and muscles were sore. Saturday, I checked my temperature and had a fever of 101.2. Sunday, I called the on-call nurse for the doctor's office. Sunday night, my back and neck had odd swelling, but the nurse had said that reactions are usually only 2 days. Hive spots were all over my back and up my neck, into my scalp. There was also a sore lump kind of in my arm. Called the doc. 'It's probably not a reaction to the flu shot, stop by at 12.' The doc reviewed flu shot Thursday evening - yep. Noticed fever - Friday. 'Coincidence.' I was put on Prednisone and Bactrim (generics). 3 special mentions: 1/ my temp, bp, weight, etc. were taken before I got the injection and I wasn't told that I was running 99.6. Should that have been a stop for the shot? 2/ Symptoms exactly the same as the possible side effects list. Yet, he still said it's probably not related. 3/ The Prednisone and Bactrim are working and my fever is gone, but when will this end... ten days?"

Influenza virus vaccine, inactivated "One month ago when I had my annual flu shot, I had a reaction I had never experienced before. I had no fever (I constantly monitored my temp), but as soon as I arrived back home, I had severe muscle pain not in the arm I received the shot in, the pain was in the opposite shoulder. I wanted to know if the shot I received this year was a different formula (maybe stronger for the elderly) or from a different manufacturer. The pain was severe enough to cause me great concern. It has only now gotten better after a week after ibuprofen and warm compresses. If this is a different flu shot formula, I said, please note in my chart not to use it in the future. I am better now but very concerned about my reaction this year. Please let me know if you find any variance in the formula this year. (I later found out this medication was indeed FLUZONE! I was not informed, nor was I asked if I wanted to try this NEW medication.) I have informed my physician to NEVER give me this drug again."
