For Birth Control "Everyone is different, this BC method, unfortunately, did not work for me, and it was the worst method I’ve ever tried out of 3. I had the Nexplanon in for almost a year. This method gave me migraines with aura. I know it was Nexplanon because once I got off of it, I never experienced it again. I remember being in class and getting a migraine, my vision would blur, and I would see tunnel vision. I could barely even walk. They would last for about an hour. I was also very sensitive to light when this would happen. I also struggled with continuous brown, sometimes red spotting typically after sex (and I was very active). I went to the doctor and talked to her about it. She told me to wait a few more months and see if the bleeding stops or goes to normal. It didn’t. I finally got off it. As far as mood swings, I don’t believe it gave me any. I felt normal."

For Birth Control "My experience on Nexplanon was very similar to some of the others on here. I have always struggled with mild depression and anxiety, but within months of getting Nexplanon I was severely depressed and angry almost all the time. I was literally suffering while using this product. I have tried multiple other forms of hormonal birth control and never experienced anything like this. On top of the mental illness, I also was bleeding constantly for the first two months, my gyno put me on the pill on top of the Nexplanon for a few weeks to stop the bleeding. It also made my cramps much, much worse. It was literally the worst point in my life. I got it removed after six months because the side effects I experienced outweighed the benefits. I had some friends that have tried it and it worked for them just fine, but I definitely would not recommend it if you have a history of mental illness and painful periods."

For Birth Control "I got the contraceptive implant inserted 3 weeks ago and had it removed today. I’ve never felt so angry and irritated in all my life! I couldn’t stand the sound of my partner's voice, and I actually got into trouble with the police, that’s how bad it made me feel. It’s no way to live! I hope to get back to myself soon! AVOID."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on the implant since December 8th of 2020. I have had headaches, nausea, extreme dizziness, and recently I have started feeling depressed and not being able to think. I am constantly sad and unhappy. I love my fiancé and daughter very much, but it’s like my brain can comprehend love, like it put love and happiness on the back burner to make room for negative intrusive thoughts. I am glad to say that I am getting this removed next week and hoping to see improvements before my wedding. My period is also very weird and crazy. I also get extreme tiredness. It may work for some people, but I don't like feeling like this, it’s a disgusting method to be because it takes over your emotional, physical, and mental."

For Birth Control "The insertion of the birth control went smoothly. No swelling or bad bruising afterwards. What was bad was how it completely crippled my mental state. I got 1,000 times more depressed, anxious, suicidal. It’s at the point where I cannot control my emotions at all. I cry so much and get angry at so many things. My emotions are seriously out of control. It ruined my relationship with my boyfriend. I’ve never ever felt so bipolar in my life. As far as my periods go, they’re very irregular, I won’t have a period for a month to 2 months, and then when I do get my period, it’s kind of light and lasts 5-15 days. Sometimes I get a period twice a month. This birth control has ruined me in so many ways. I cannot wait to get it taken out. The only downside is the doctors I go to will not accept my insurance (Medicaid) unless I’m pregnant, so I have to pay $300-$500 out of pocket to get it taken out."

For Birth Control "Really don’t feel this is for me; I’m 42, gave birth 5.5 months ago and have been using it for 3 months, but despite various health practitioners trying to talk me into giving it ‘more time,’ I’ve decided today to get it removed. Over the past 3 months, I’ve put on more weight than during pregnancy, have had ridiculous mood swings, distressing thoughts, night sweats, headaches, odd ‘pressure’ around my womb, unbelievable acne that I haven’t experienced in 25 years, and the insertion site still throbs at times. But most concerning has been the past 48 hours when the ache has increased. I’ve had visual disturbances, chest pains, and now they’re doing checks for a pulmonary embolism. At 42, other than some mental health issues, I’ve never had any health concerns. I have the implant, and I’ve got all these ailments within the same 3 months of insertion. It also concerns me how hard it is to find ‘reviews’ of Nexplanon online (other than here) from actual users."

For Birth Control "I’ve had Nexplanon for 6 years, and I was really unsure about if I should continue in January 2021, but I took it out and got a new one. I’ve had panic attacks for exactly 6 years, but I have always thought it was caused by trauma. I have managed my anxiety and traveled, gone to concerts, and everything I love until this year. I could not even go to the grocery store. Before I took it out in January, it became inactive in my arm because I missed my appointment. Since I put in the last one, I have suffered intrusive thoughts, existential thoughts, and just felt horrible. Thoughts I’ve never had in my life, and I have not felt like myself at all. It took until July before I found this and several other pages, and I finally understood. It has been a month since I took it out, and I can feel myself slowly return, I feel stronger and happier. Not 100, but I believe that I will soon. If you are reading this just like I did - you are NOT alone, you are not crazy, and you will get better."

For Birth Control "I had it for about a year...I got it right after I had my daughter. I decided to get it removed because I had zero sex drive and I struggled to lose weight. Right after I got it removed, I started experiencing tension headaches and then heart palpitations. It's been about 6 months since I had it removed, and they have not gone away. I've seen doctors and a cardiologist, and they say everything looks fine."

For Birth Control "I got on Nexplanon for the first time (and my first time being on BC in general) in March 2021. It's now August 2021, and I am bleeding for months on end. I drank a bunch of water to see if that would help stop it, and it did for only about a month before the bleeding kicked up again. It's mostly spotting, but some days I get cramps with actual bleeding happening, and I'm incredibly frustrated that I have to waste so much money on pads. I feel absolutely disgusting bleeding so much. I wish the official website for this wretched thing would give you a lot more information than is provided. I feel disgusting with this. I get weird pains in my inner thigh that I had never gotten before Nexplanon, and that worries me. Also, my boobs hurt so bad. All of this is very annoying and frustrating, and I want to rip my entire arm off. I'd rather deal with painful and heavy periods than this again. Just don't get it. Please, save yourself the trouble and just get the pill."

For Birth Control "I was on this birth control for a little over 6 months, and all of it was extremely awful. For example, I bled every day for almost three months straight, and when I asked my gyno, they said it was normal (?!) and that it was okay. Not only that, but I was heavily depressed during this time, and it did not only affect me but my family. When I got it out, things were so much better, I am back to being usually my happy self."

For Birth Control "DO NOT GET THIS BIRTH CONTROL IF YOU HAVE ANXIETY!!!! I know the story might be different for everyone, but I've always had mild anxiety issues. When I went to get the implant inserted, the doctor severely downplayed the side effects. She said that it would only mildly heighten my anxiety. Not true. For the last 2 months (ever since I got it), I've been dealing with extreme anxiety, panic attacks, feeling like I'm dying or the world is going to end. It's borderline psychotic. I can't do anything anymore without something setting me off into a panic attack. And not to mention the bleeding. I have had constant bleeding ever since my first period on the Nexplanon. Constant, heavy bleeding. Not spotting. They don't tell you how this can really muck you around."

For Birth Control "Con: HUGE weight gain. I got Nexplanon put in right after I had my son. I had it for 15 months. The whole time I had it in, I didn't get a period at all, not even spotting. Getting it put in and taken out was easy and quick. It only burns when they give you the pain medicine around the insertion area. Pros: I didn't get pregnant, I didn't get my period, it's easy to use, and you can just forget about it. Cons: I gained a lot of weight really fast. 75 pounds. My depression and anxiety got worse. And I got mood swings. I would not suggest to anyone to use Nexplanon. On the fact alone, I believe it makes you gain weight. (I talked to other people who had the same experience)."

For Birth Control "I am 20, and I had the Nexplanon implant for 6 years and one month. The first two implants went smoothly, no weight gain or anything like that. I lost around 25 pounds over the span of that time. No anxiety or nausea, never felt lightheaded or dizzy. I got my second one removed and the third one put in on July 20th, and a week later I got extreme nausea, lightheadedness, and just felt overall very disoriented. Two days go by, and everything calms down, and then it kicked right back up. Constantly nauseous, dizzy, high heart rate all day, cold sweats with no fever, and complete loss of appetite (I lost 10 pounds in a week). I finally got it removed yesterday, and the symptoms haven’t subsided yet. It’s not worth it."

For Birth Control "I wanted to comment on this because I think it’s just like the old Norplant I had, and the horrible symptoms are the same! I had this implanted years ago under the name Norplant. I can’t say it’s exactly the same, but it sure sounds like it. It was implanted in my arm and was supposed to last 5 years, and all I did was bleed the entire time. I was even more depressed than I already am, and I just couldn’t take it anymore and had it removed early. Looks like they may have relabeled that, and here it is again ruining lives! Stay away from these implants. It’s horrible because if it doesn’t agree with you, you’re kind of stuck. My insurance paid to have it placed but wouldn’t pay for the removal, so keep that in mind. Maybe check into that beforehand so if you have issues, you will know how you will pay to get the removal."

For Birth Control "I'm a gynecologist, and this is horrible patient service. We can't get this device approved by insurance in a timely manner, and the delay with insurance approval is causing a delay in getting birth control. Horrible benefits service, and it's just getting worse and worse. I just spoke to someone from Organon and voiced my complaint. This company needs to get their act together. Dr. Cristina Tzilinis, DO, Naples, FL."

For Birth Control "I had the Nexplanon implant put in January 2019. And I had it removed 1.5 years later (today). When I first had it, I had aggressive mood swings and was easily agitated. A month ago, like a switch, I started having extreme anxiety and daily panic attacks. This has been a mystery. I’m a happy person. I have a dream job, an amazing family, and so on. I’m hoping the removal of this will help."

For Birth Control "This is my 3rd time having it in my arm. And this 3rd round is awful. I'm having bad headaches, always tired, no energy, my vagina pH is off bad. My sex drive is a zero, I loved having sex before, and now I don't even like thinking about sex. It is giving me a bad odor down there. It's been 9 months now, and I'm getting this removed out of my arm ASAP. My whole body has changed."

For Birth Control "It works for sure, but a few days after I got it inserted, I started having crazy dizzy spells, nausea, room spinning, ear buzzing. I had never had dizziness issues before Nexplanon. My doctor says I have vertigo. I stuck with it because I don’t want a baby, but now I have debilitating dizziness randomly twice a month. It sucks so bad, so I am switching to something non-hormonal ASAP."

"I got the Nexplanon birth control in May, and it’s July, and I got it out today. I didn’t feel any side effects for the first month, but I remember the day that all shifted, and I haven’t felt the same. Constantly depressed and have super bad anxiety. My brain has been telling me to push my partner away when all I want to do is be around him. Cry all the time, I have no motivation. Night terrors, and I feel like there’s no happiness around me when that’s all there is. I’ve never felt like this before and can’t wait to start feeling normal again."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on birth control for as long as I could remember. I’ve tried the pill, the depo shot, and the patches. I got Nexplanon inserted three years ago mainly because I didn’t want to remember having to take a pill or set up a doctor's appointment for the injection. The first year was fine, but after that, my whole life turned upside down. I didn’t relate it to the birth control, but I’ve had severe depression and anxiety, which I’ve never experienced in my life until Nexplanon. This needs to be taken off the market. I’m a very mean person on it, and I get my period for weeks at a time. I’m always crying and being irrational, not to mention the horrible acne this thing puts out. Worst experience of my entire life. I can’t even begin to explain the emotional rollercoaster this type of birth control has put me through."

For Birth Control "This has been a nightmare. I am a mom to a young daughter with special needs. One issue is she has a hypersexual disorder, so we've always kept her on birth control. She could not mentally or physically handle a pregnancy. Well, our doctor convinced us this would be the best option for her as she is terrified of needles, so Depo was a nightmare, and we worry about her being consistent with pills. The doctor was wrong. Our daughter, like many individuals with special needs, has a long history of psychological issues. She had been doing great, though, until she got Nexplanon. Nonstop periods, to the point of her collapsing from anemia and constant acute psych stays for mental health crisis states. Then the final straw - 2 years and 3 months after getting the implant - she collapses and is taken to the ER only to find she was having a miscarriage of an ectopic pregnancy! She is physically okay so far - just happened yesterday - but mentally, I don't know if she'll recover. We're furious!"

For Birth Control "While on it the first year, everything was 'ok.' Then, out of the blue, I started having brain fog that wouldn’t go away. I started getting extremely moody and anxious. I also was having suicidal thoughts for no reason at all. Brain fog and depression with this implant is no joke. I was miserable until I got it removed my 3rd year on it, and immediately all those side effects vanished."

For Birth Control "Got this useless thing 3 months ago before undergoing gastric sleeve surgery because of malabsorption possibilities with the pill. Let me just say that I think my husband is ready to leave me and take my daughter, too, with how absolutely unbearable I’ve become. I have two moods: withdrawn or agitated. This product is awful, and I’m having it removed tomorrow and can’t tell you how relieved I already am."
