For Birth Control "Exacerbated my mental health issues severely with paranoia, anxiety, depression. Heavy bleeding the majority of the time I had it in and became severely anemic and lost weight. I would never recommend this to someone with even the mildest of mental illness."

For Birth Control "Don't even bother. Out of all the birth control methods you could use, this one is crap. At first, it works fine, but gradually your body becomes used to the hormones, causing you to have month-long periods at times. At that point, it's like, what's the purpose? To keep you from having sex at all? Yeah, great method to keep you from having kids (sarcastic). I am so ready to get this thing out, NOT WORTH IT!"

For Birth Control "Don't do it, I used to eat like a cow and now I can't eat anything and I can't keep anything down. I'm dizzy, tired, sad, or having a panic attack every five minutes, and I've only had it for 3 weeks!! I just wouldn't get it."

For Birth Control "I had a horrible experience even from the insertion when the nurse punctured me, but the implant remained in the device, leading to a second puncture that left a bigger scar. After 6 months of weight gain, fatigue, and bleeding, I asked my doctor to take it out, but she convinced me it just “needed time to adjust.” I let it poison my body for another 6 months. I gained a total of 40 lbs, never stopped bleeding, and developed fatty liver and osteoarthritis even with exercise. When it was removed by a different clinic, the doctor told me it had been embedded in my muscle. I feel a lot better now that it’s been out for two years. I lost the weight I had gained (now my body looks different from the stretched skin). Still dealing with a slight hormone imbalance, complications from fatty liver, and osteoporosis. Most upset about how much they pushed it on me and lied when I asked if it would cause weight gain and other health issues. They want money, so do your own research."

For Birth Control "Absolutely horrendous, have had the implant in for over a year now, and I’m finally able to get it removed this week. Trying to get the doctor's surgery to remove it has been a task, even though for the past year I’ve had constant bleeding and spotting, which is now taking its toll. I feel drained and tired, my moods are all over the place, which they have never been. I was put on the pill alongside the implant to see if the bleeding would stop, which it didn’t, it just made me feel worse: headaches, spots, bloating. I wouldn’t recommend the implant to anyone, it’s been more hassle than it’s worth."

For Birth Control "I have always struggled with depression. A few weeks after insertion, my mental health tanked. For the next four years, I suffered with binge eating and weight gain, severe depression, suicidal thoughts, and actions. I tried 10+ antidepressants, anti-anxiety, antipsychotic meds, etc. Nothing helped. I began to give up on life. Realized the only thing I hadn't changed was my birth control. I decided to remove it. Three to four weeks after removal, I felt like a new person. I felt like the person I hadn't seen in years. Lost 25 lbs in the first few months. Full of energy and motivation. Great for preventing pregnancy, though."

For Birth Control "All of the other reviews are right. This drug has absolutely abhorrent mental side effects. I've never had mental health problems before, but this has caused me to experience depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. Just don't get it."

For Birth Control "DO NOT USE THIS BIRTH CONTROL. For years of Nexplanon, I never had a period and became super depressed without knowing it. I was moody and had basically ZERO sex drive. I developed a nasty ovarian cyst, which burst and became infected, this took six months to heal. I started bleeding HEAVILY every day, nonstop, for eight months total. Not to mention, the depression and low sex drive NEVER went away. I couldn't take it anymore and had the implant removed. My doctors kept saying the depression wasn't related to Nexplanon, but once it was removed, I did a complete 180 the first week! My daily bleeding immediately stopped, my skin even cleared up within a couple of days. After a week, I actually wanted to have sex again, and now I feel SO much happier, it's unreal. I'm usually not one to make posts or reviews, but after my experience, I truly believe no woman should be on this birth control, it messes up your hormones so much. The point is, if I could rate this 0/10, I would."

For Birth Control "My stepmom wanted me to get birth control when I turned 16 just to be safe. I wasn't keen at first, but when I heard it would stop my periods, I didn’t mind. Two years later, I have been trying to get this thing taken out for many months. This is terrible. No one said my period would last for 2 months. I went 3 months without a period about 6 months after getting the implant, and that’s all. I have been on my period more than not on this terrible birth control. I loathe it so much. Don’t get this. I am not even sexually active, I would rather literally just never, ever have sex or get my uterus taken out than have to deal with this birth control. I do not recommend this thing to anybody in the entire world unless you really want to be on your period your whole life."

For Birth Control "DON'T GET IT. I got this put in almost a year ago (last March). It is January now. About 4 months in, I had a panic attack. Never have had a panic attack in my life. Anxiety has never been a problem for me, and all of a sudden I'm avoiding going out with friends because I feel like I'm going to have a mental break and freak out just talking to my own friends. Then I started feeling majorly depressed. Haven't felt depressed since pre-teen years (10 years ago). November comes around, and I'm having suicidal thoughts for weeks while at work. My arm is constantly itching, my periods are all over the place. I can't track them. It's great for preventing pregnancy. But mentally, I'm exhausted. I did not fully look into how this affected women until I started feeling this way, not understanding why. Then my boyfriend brought the implant up. I know now. Ha. I'm taking this out ASAP."

For Birth Control "I just had mine taken out. I’ve always had anxiety, but nothing like what Nexplanon will make you feel like. I’ve never had such intense anxiety that I couldn’t leave my house. Yesterday, when I went to have it taken out, was the first time being in public in three months. It’s not worth the toll it takes on your mental health, it was a nightmare. I hope I never go through that again!!!"

For Birth Control "I have had my implant 2.5 years, and about 2 years in, I started experiencing high, high levels of anxiety, which are so difficult to control. I’ve tried meditation, exercises, new hobbies, but nothing is working. I thought it was due to uni stress or stress between friends, etc., but only now have I realized it’s the implant. I’m exhausted all the time, anxiety is ridiculous, so unmotivated when I used to have an amazing work ethic. Since reading these posts, I have realized it’s due to the implant, not lockdown. I hope my experience helps someone, as this, with a combination of lockdown, had triggered some awful anxiety and low moods."

For Birth Control "Nexplanon was probably one of the worst forms of birth control I've ever had. It had given me so many problems I never knew I had. I have never had a history of mental health issues, but the implant made me severely depressed, and I found myself having suicidal tendencies. I would wake up every day not feeling like myself and could only link it to the implant as I have never had anything like this before. I had clear skin before and then started to develop bad chin acne. Although I was aware beforehand that this was a side effect, it made me feel more depressed and insecure. Sex felt a lot less pleasurable than normal. I'd say the only remotely good thing about the implant was that it made my periods stop completely, but I would much rather have a painful, heavy period than all of these issues. It's definitely one of those forms of birth control that is a hit or miss, but it wasn't for me, and I'd never go back on it."

For Birth Control "If you have PCOS or struggle with acne, do not get Nexplanon. Just a couple of weeks after I got it, I started to get painful cystic acne on my chin and lower face area. I had dealt with that because of PCOS, but it was one to two at a time, and now it’s a constant cycle. As soon as one goes away, there are three more, and I now have redness and acne scars covering the lower half of my face. My confidence is completely gone. I go to a dermatologist and take care of my skin much more than the average person, but it seems to do nothing. I only wear makeup once a week and take it off before bed, and every time I wake up with more deep cystic spots. So I can’t even cover it."

For Birth Control "My wife had this implant about a year ago. It was sold to her as a birth control device. Let me tell you, it’s certainly worked for birth control, as she’s not had sex since. She won’t even be touched. She has huge mood swings, is constantly on edge, and seems to have nothing to give. She also doesn’t think that anything is wrong. But I know how she was before the implant."

For Birth Control "Absolutely awful - wouldn’t recommend to anyone. Nexplanon completely destroyed my mood, I became spotty and ugly, I felt like pure rubbish. Every day would randomly burst into tears and lash out at people. Not to mention I have been on my period for 22 days straight!!! How Nexplanon is legal is beyond me!!!"

For Birth Control "I have had the implant in for 7 months, and the toll it had taken on my personality and mental health is unbelievable. Health-wise, I barely get my period. When I first got it, for the first month there was constant bleeding, but ever since then I've only had my period once. I do not feel myself on this, I cry way more often, and I'm way more moody and irritable now. I will also lash out at people for the most stupid things and cause petty arguments because of my mood swings. I do not recommend personally, but we'll all have our different experiences."

For Birth Control "I want to start by saying this was my first experience with birth control. Knowing me and how I am, I didn't think I would remember to take pills or get the injection regularly, and this also seemed more cost-efficient. I have never had too much of an issue with depression, anxiety, or mood swings. Nothing I felt I needed help with, but within the first few months of having this implant, I was having mental breakdown after mental breakdown. I would be sobbing to my now husband about how different I felt and sad, empty. There was also a MASSIVE change in my sex drive as well. We were extremely active, and it was like someone pulled the emergency brake on it. It was so hard to work through and continued to be hard. My implant expires in January of 2021, and I am so happy. I'm tired of feeling exhausted and angry 24/7. I just want to feel normal again and finally STOP bleeding because seriously, I was on my period like the entire time I had it. But hey, I'm not pregnant, right? Ugh."

For Birth Control "After 8 months of pleading with my doctor to remove it, I had it removed by someone else. It was about 3 months before I started feeling like myself again, but the divorce proceedings were already underway, and after the abuse he suffered, my ex-husband had no interest in reconciliation. I have no memory to this day of the crazy things I had done while on this. Switched to copper IUD. Period cramps were horrible with it, but I had my own mind and that was worth the discomfort. After years of therapy to help me regain control of my life, I was able to remarry, and I have never gone back to hormonal birth control. Anything is better than this. Abstinence is better than this."

For Birth Control "Nexplanon is awful! Completely changed my life for the worst. Within a month, I experienced extreme anxiety, depression, intrusive thoughts, mood swings, crying spells, suicidal thoughts, you name it. I want my old life back! I had it removed yesterday, and now I’m having the worst panic attacks of my life. I just pray that this is just my body’s way of regulating again. Do not get the Nexplanon!"

For Birth Control "I’m currently almost 35 years old. I was only on birth control pills back in high school. 15+ years of no hormones in my body, and now I remember why. I got Nexplanon in July 2021, one month after having my second son. (2 under 2). I don’t want any more children. This was a pretty good option. So I thought. 4 months in and I’m irritable, moody, sometimes filled with rage, hot flashes, night sweats. Body odor no matter how much you shower. Headaches, dizziness, sadness, low sex drive, and CONSTANT bleeding. After 4 months, I probably went two weeks total, not consecutive without bleeding. It is awful. I’m getting it out in a few days, and I hope I feel like myself again. I was a go-with-the-flow, happy, and fun-loving person. Now I’m just miserable and have a short temper. I’m removing it before the father of my children leaves me because I’m impossible to be around. It’s different for everyone, but I would never recommend it to anyone."

"I am a 46-year-old woman and I talked to my doc about birth control to stop or lessen my period. I have had Nexplanon in for 2 months and it is absolutely the worst thing ever. My first period I spotted 5 days in a row. I thought, ok, this isn't bad. On day 6 I thought I'd bleed to death, and it got worse. On day 7 I called the doc, and they said my body was adjusting and if by day 9 I had not stopped bleeding, then to call back. I waited it out. Finally, on Sat 12, it stopped. Yay. This month, again spotting 5 days and again I'm gonna bleed to death. I also had heavy clotting in between periods. So gross. I am making an appointment to have this removed, it's awful and completely not what I wanted."

For Birth Control "The first few times I had Nexplanon were fine. I had six years of no periods and practically no negative symptoms (other than weight gain). About a year after my third implant, I developed debilitating symptoms (fatigue, weakness, brain fog, horrible anxiety, panic attacks, and more) that led me to a dozen specialists to try to determine what was wrong with me. I had never had any of these symptoms before, and the anxiety/panic attacks were especially alarming. I even wound up in the ER a few times. Countless tests and scans led nowhere. As a last-ditch effort, I got my implant removed on August 31st, and I completely changed my diet, started exercising every day despite the fatigue, meditated multiple times a day, and started taking multivitamins and magnesium. The two weeks after removal were a nightmare. I then had five good weeks where I felt almost normal. Then I got my first period and was hit with everything all over again. Please do not use this horrible BC."

For Birth Control "The first month or two were fine, period lightened up, had some light cramping. Then I started to develop severe anxiety and depression out of nowhere and started having panic attacks with no prior history of any of those things. I couldn't sleep because my anxiety kept my body and mind awake. I felt at a constant stress level of at least 8 at all times during the day as a baseline. Started having intrusive and suicidal thoughts, lost all joy for food, lost about maybe 20 pounds, and am now fighting to be able to eat a full plate of pasta because my stomach has shrunken from my lack of an appetite for so long. I got it removed two weeks ago. I woke up this morning for the first time in months feeling like myself again."
