I've been on generic Prozac for around 4-5 months I started with 10mg and slowly moved up to 40mg. I take it for anxiety and panic attacks yet I don't know if it's really helping. I guess my mood has gotten a bit better but still I get anxious over nothing. There's a very little difference between how I feel now vs prior to my medicines. Am I missing something here?
How should you feel when taking 40mg of fluoxetine (Prozac)?

Oh I forgot to mention one thing that did seem to get better was my sleep. I sleep really good and feel well rested in the morning now.

Xanax...
Because of the opioid crisis, the risk of addiction, and the severity of long term side effects many doctors are no longer prescribing benzodiazepines and are weaning existing users off them.
Lol if Xanax was only good for u to take everyday. Benzos are such a great invention.
Yes, that's why doctors are no longer prescribing them! They're only now discovering how very dangerous benzos really are.
Everyone is different. What works for one person may not work for another. Anxiety is treatable not cured. If you are suffering an attack then what works, works. Easy for someone to judge. Not acceptable though. When you suffer from anxiety waiting it out feels like eternity. I am not a fan of any medication, but reality is some of us do need it.
I am Rx 80mg Prozac and have been for many years. Works wonders for me. Does nothing for my anxiety so Xanax is my go to for relief..
I was a Xanax user too. But it stopped working for me when myanxiety came back full force recently. I am now a klonopin user. And believe me I am a firm believer in using it. I take 20mg of prozac whjch hasn't been helping lately and when panic is bad u take the benzo. Nothing feels worse than. A bad panic attack.
For the immediate relief of an occasional panic attack = yes. For long term control of anxiety = no.

I agree. It is a relief knowing I have them. That's what i am saying. They r bad for u but they work.
I know right! Glad we are on the same page Cheryl. I will take what works for me. If it's not broke why fix it
Prozac often exacerbates (worsens) anxiety disorders, I would recommend ceasing usage after consulting a doctor and ask about alternative medications.
Correction, after long term use with no improvement
I agree with Cheryl. After being on a fairly high dose for this long you should be seeing significant improvement.
Time to speak with your doctor about your options.
Best regards and good luck
if its been 5 months and u dont see a major improvement in your symptoms then you should discuss with your doctor about moving onto something else. That is def enough time to see if it is benefiting you.
I also took Fluoxetine 40 mgs once daily for about two years for depression and anxiety. I actually felt pretty good. After about a year and a half, I guess my body got used to the Fluoxetine so I was also prescribed 1 mg. Xanax, twice daily for anxiety as I started having panic attacks more frequently. As I felt better and depression lifted, I was prescribed Xanax for anxiety only. I now only take Clonazepam for anxiety for the last three years. Hope you feel better soon.
What dosage of clonazepam works for your anxiety? I feel the same way... not depressed, just anxious every day.
