Taking metformin hcl tab 500mg 2 times daily for low blood sugar. When should i see an increase in my blood sugar and how long do i have to continue taking this med - forever?

From what I have read it does not even work well. My mother was told she needs to switch from metformin to trajenta because of her kidneys. She has never had any problem with metformin. I hope trajenta will work for her but I am not sure how any one can afford it.
