Gabapentin - Since taking this drug my lower extremities are swollen. Will this go away?

I have been taking it for one week.

Does gabapentin stop working after taking it for a certain length of time?

I husband has been on gabapentin for approximately two years. He feels that it’s not working as well anymore. Does gabapentin stopped working as well after taking a certain length of time?
