I have been experiencing burning all down my neck, back and arms and I was put on gabapentin 300 mg. I found by 4:00 PM I was angry and felt all kinds of bad thoughts. I have decided to cut back and take just I mid morning and 1 before bed. Has anyone experienced these feelings? Please help.
Can taking just 300mg of gabapentin a day cause anger and paranoia or am I just loosing my mind?

Hello Camsmom
I noticed that you have diabetes noted in your topics.
How long have you been diabetic? Is it possible your diabetes could be getting worse, thus causing the nerve pain in your back, neck and arms to worsen?
Finally, I understand how excruciating nerve pain can be. My brother is diabetic and suffers from nerve pain in his back & spine. For his pain he's prescribed one 10 mg Flexeril 2 to 3 times a day. Maybe you could ask your doctor if that would work for you?
Feel better!

I'm sorry I'm not diabetic I just dont know how to change in the link. I'm going to go see my regular doctor and I'm going to mention the Flexeril to him. Please tell your brother I'm praying for him. It sucks having burning pain all day long with minimal relief and I have it in my feet also. Add in mental stuff too and viola, basket case. I lost 150 pounds and had knee replacement last year trying to better myself and now spinal stenosis. Sucks getting old! Thanks again for your time.
Hi Camsmom. I have never taken Gabapentin but I have taken both Lyrica and Cymbalta. I was prescribed them for chronic nerve pain but they caused me anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and so much more. I have researched Gabapentin and have read that many people have experienced the same symptoms as you. These types of medications change who we are and sometimes it can be a very hard road back to ‘normal’. Do all the research you can. Please take care and I wish you the best. Cindy
Thank you so much for taking time to answer my question. The doctor emailed and he thinks the mood change is not due to the medication and wants me to go on depression meds. I'm leaving it in his hands. I need something desperately because the bad thoughts and anger are freaking me out. Thanks again.
Hi Camsmom!
I'm taking a pretty high dose of Gabapentin (800 mg 3 times a day--morning/noon/evening before retiring) for Fibromyalgia and Neuropathy pain. I'm not having the effects you describe, however I'm also taking an antidepressant as well to stop the anger. I don't experience paranoia (feeling that someone is following me) so I don't know what to tell you, except that you might want to consult a psychiatrist to see if there's something underlying. Anger and paranoia are serious stuff and no one should have to suffer with them if help is available. Feel better!

I am taking Gabapentin for mood swings. I am going crazy now. It’s making me angry and combative and very argumentative. What do you take for an anti-depressant?
Yes.
My husband cannot take this because of the effect it has on him. Anger, rage, frustration etc.
I was given pregabalin rather than gabapentin so can’t speak from my own experience.
