I husband has been on gabapentin for approximately two years. He feels that it’s not working as well anymore. Does gabapentin stopped working as well after taking a certain length of time?

I had taken gabapentin since 2001 off and on throughout my life. It worked up until about 2011. I started lyrica and at first didn’t like it and we switched me back to gabapentin which then didn’t even come close to working for me. And when you talk about an electrical feeling? YES!!! The electrical fire is what I call it. When the gabapentin was coming out of my system I felt it. I felt it without lyrica too though. So it is different for all.
Cindy, did he notice any prickly feelings or itching over his entire body as he have tapered? I just feel like my nerves are standing on edge, almost electrical. I was on them for over 10 yrs. and have just recently gotten off after a slow taper.
Hi mwjwriter. Yes I definitely have all those withdrawal effects. I’ve been on them for 8-9 years. I have the prickly feelings mostly in my arms, hands, legs and feet. Some call them zaps. I am itchy too. It drives me crazy at night when I’m trying to go to sleep and my face itches like crazy! Nerves... Omgosh; sometimes I feel like I’m going to lose it. My emotions are up and down all day long. I get angry over nothing and now I’m starting to cry over commercials. We will get through this. We have to make sure that we taper at the rate that our body can handle. Our brain too. It affects every part of us. I can’t wait to be off this drug and have it out of my life.
Well, now I don't have to wonder any longer what it is that's driving me so crazy! Sometimes my face and ears itch so much I can hardly stand it. The electrical buzzing is on my entire body.
I've already tapered off after several months--have been off for about a month
Yes it does! Gabapentin worked for me a few years; then it stopped working. It’s different for each person because we are different. I will be tapered off by mid to late summer. Can’t wait
No, definitely not! I’ve been on it since 2007.
