Is sucralfate used for a hiatal hernia, does it decrease acid in the stomach or does it block acid?

I have been prescribed Sucralfate for an ulcer. Google searches show that it is specific to easing the pain associated with an ulcer and to help heal the ulcer. I have not seen any information regarding any other use.

Also it does not block or decrease the acid in the stomach, it merely protects the ulcer and promotes healing. That's why it is often prescribed in conjunction with Prilosec or Nexum..

Hope this helps
