I really liked LaurieShay's eating plan for weight loss after Gabapentin use and will try it! However, now that I am off Gabapentin, what to use for pain management for horrible peripheral neuropathy which I have had since 2005? Have been using Vicodin 3x/day for 6 years but it really didn't quell the more severe nerve pain which is worse at night. Also tried neuropathy supplements with B12 and B1 which worked great within a matter of just a few days, but had just as bad weight gain in just a matter of a few days. Has anyone had pain relief without weight gain? Yesterday my ankles looked like baseballs and my abdomen is hard as a rock and starting to look like I am pregnant. :o(
Had to stop Gabapentin due to weight gain - now how to lose weight and what to use for neuropathy?

You can watch your carbs. Even when taking gabapentin if you watch your carbs you can lose the weight. Pain is more miserable ... Do what you have too
Will do and thanks for your recommendation!
Have you asked your physician about a different medication in place of the Gabapentin? My doctor changed me to Lyrica and I got better pain relief. To combat the weight gain I joined Weight Watchers and have been successful in losing 20 pounds over a year's time
Yes he suggested Lyrica which I didn't like. I haven't been able to do Weight Watchers due to lack of funds with mounting medical bills, and am in bad shape due to recovering from a head-on car crash, which injuries greatly worsened my neuropathy, including surgery to re-attach my left foot where the tendon ruptured. When I get home at night I curl up on the sofa in pain after microwaving a Lean Cuisine. I can barely walk with the aid of a cane. I am envious of Jennifer Hudson and Marie Osmond though. Maybe in time when my medicals are more under control I can try Weight Watchers. From what I've heard they are the most sensible and effective eating plan out there! Thank you so much for your recommendations! :o)
I know Topamax can help nerve pain. Keep up the Vitamins and make sure you get enough electrolytes. Maybe a Topamax and Cymbalta combo can work or simply adding one of those two may help with the weight gain while helping the pain as well
Thanks for your ideas! As of now I am still using the Vicodin but NO Gabapentin! I did find a Vit. B supplement at my podiatrist's office called NeuRemedy Plus. It is simply a highly absorbable form of B-12 and B-1 and it is actually helping! I have tried other neuropathy supplements by other companies in the past but this is the only one that is helping. I still have worse pain at night and first thing in the AM but am making progress. I realize everyone's chemistry is different but as for me I do recommend NeuRemedy Plus. It is recommended to take 2 capsules twice a day for the first month, and then 1 capsule twice a day from then on. It is $30/bottle. If I continue to have unmanaged pain I will indeed discuss your recommendations re the Topamax with my doc. I didn't like Cymbalta.
