In the reviews I've read on gabapentin most have dizziness in the beginning. I am starting gabapentin for extreme anxiety in a few days and am wondering if I will need to stay home because of dizziness or be able to function out side of my home? Working, shopping etc.? Also how long does this feeling last?

Gabapentin affects each individual in different ways and to greater or lesser degree. Your doctor probably should have titrated you up as my doctor did with me. I take 300mg every 8 hours, and have been doing so for over a month now with no pronounced side effects... in particular no dizziness. I was titrated up from 100 mg three times a day for allodynia in my toes, part of erythromelalgia. I sometimes think I may have a little "brain fog" from the gabapentin, but I am 78 years old and a little brain fog now and again might be considered "normal" at my age. If you notice anything new going on, look at the possible side effects on Drugs.com and call your doctor and report it. Most side effects go away after a week or so.
Hi, Anxiety!
Everyone responds differently to this type of medication. You may not have any side effects at all or you may be one of the 17% of users who reported dizziness. If you do, as Happy said, side effects are usually mild and generally subside within days to a week or so.
Try not to let your anxiety over dizziness get the better of you! Just remember it's your anxiety talking and you should try to take this medication with an open mind.
BTW, if you don't mind my asking out of curiosity... have you taken other anxiety medications before now?
Best regards and I hope you're feeling much better quickly.

No I have never taken any meds in my life except over the counter and very few of those that's why am a little stressed to begin my first "real" medication.
So it's very understandable that you're nervous about starting your medication. It sounds like you've done some research and it's a good idea to acquaint yourself with the medication. You might have read the reviews here on Drugs.com but if not here's the link:

It might be helpful to you to read about other people's experiences.
If you have questions or concerns along your way that we can help with just post again, okay?
Take care!
