I discovered that when I went to have my monthly script filled. None at any drugstore here. Luckily I have enough to last 2 months. Teva says it is on back-order. I hope so, I have taken it for 10 years and for the first time in my life I am not depressed or anxious. Anyone heard if they are going to stop making this drug?
There is a shortage of nefazodone, are they going to stop making it? Did it use to be called Serzone

To date 6/18/12 I was told they Pharmacists have NO info on nefazodone being on back order, I have taken since they took Serzone off the market back in 2004. There should be some notification given re: when and why it was taken off market. It next to serzone was the most effective anti-deressant I've EVER taken. I was also told the sales were down for the nefazodone so they decided to stop manufacturing. They should've jacked the prices up on those such as myself because it was a MIRACLE for me.
Happy to report I was able to refill my Nefazodone this past weekend at an Osco in my hometown. They said they now have the drug back in their warehouses and should have sufficient supply for the future. Thank you, Teva!
Great to know it's back I'm going to check for Osco online as I have checked with every pharmacy in my area and bought out the remainder from regular pharm. In my opinion Teva is THE best manufactor of Nefazodone. I tried others and imo, it was like a completly different medication. Thanks :)
Momsue84: I'm glad! Me too,,, what a relief!
Brand2generic: Right, they should Not have jacked up the price, it's a huge hardship for many of us. I agree there should have been a warning/notification, it was so wrong.
I agree. It was the only med that relieved my depression. I have tried Prozac Zoloft Wellbutrin Paxil Nardil lithium tofrinil had 17 ECTs numerous cognitive threapy modules hypnosis suicide attempts and many admissions to the psych ward. I had given up until I tried serzone and it gave me my life back until they pulled it off the market. Just found out today that they still make nefazodone. I abruptly quit Effexor mirtazapine and abilify with many withdrawal symptoms a week ago and am not resuming them. Didn't work that well. Still very depressed and fatigued. Will be glad to resume nefazodone and get my life back. Been 10 years now and I'm tired of fighting but now I will have a chance
Refilled my nefazodone today at Walgreen's and was told any further refills may be problematic due to a back order with the manufacturer. Anyone know if this has been taken care of?? I've been on this med for 15 years and have found no other that works as well for me.
Serzone was taken off the market in Europe in 2003 and in the US in May 2004 (Google for info). However, the generic for Serzone, Nefazadone, continued to be sold and was deemed to be safe for use and for further research and development. I have taken it since 1998 and it is the only medication that controls my depression. I know because when Serzone was taken off the market in the US, I spent a year trying other depression meds and none of them worked. I heard from my AARP Plan D - prescription med insurance - (United Health Care) on April 11, 2012 and they told me by phone that they could not fill my 3 month prescription because they were out and because Teva had stopped manufacturing it. They also said that Teva gave them (United Health Care) no reason for stopping production. United Health Care said they expected to be resupplied and would be able to fill my prescription in mid May. Now they say mid June.
On April 11, United Health Care also told me to call around to see if I could find a drugstore that could fill my prescription for a month. Luckily I found one and even more luckily, I got a refill this week. However, that drugstore doesn't have any nefazadone now. Both my doctor and I are highly concerned about the continued availability of nefazadone. As several of you have mentioned, you can't just stop taking nefazadone and start taking another med. You have to titrate off, that is, very slowly reduce the amount you are taking. If you do not titrate off, you will go into wirthdrawal fairly quickly -- and that can be horrendous. I suspect titrating off could take a month or more. So since no one knows whether nefazadone is going to be available again and Teva is not telling anyone, those of us who take nefazadone don't know what to do. Do we start titrating off? Or do we continue taking nefazadone in the hopes that Teva will start producing it again? If only there were some oversight or regulatory commission to which we could complain about this situation; however, it's us versus Teva. Let's hope Teva has a heart.
More info from Sidney63. I talked with Teva - the mfr, The agent said that Nefazadone became available in early June and has been shipped to all pharmacies that had it on back order. She also said that they had no plans to discontinue selling it - especially given all the phone calls they had gotten while it was unavavilable. This is good news for al of us!
My wife is as desperate as many others in this stream. I just called Teva, and they told me that the expect to ship to warehouses in 2 to 4 weeks. It should appear in pharmacies in 4 to 6 weeks. More importantly, the TEVA customer service rep said they know of no plans to discontinue Nefazodone production.
Just got an email from Teva. They began shipping all mg of nefazodone end of last week. It should be in pharmacies next week. Good for us. Love and light to all of you.
Excellent!!
Serzone was the brand name. I'm pretty sure they have been discontinued.
Nefazodone are on back order. Teva estimates a release date in mid-to-late May, 2012.
Is teva the only manufacturer of the generic? Is the brand name a consideration if its not back in time for you?
