After Valtrex & Medrol initally I have had Gabapentin, 300mg TID x 2 months Lidoderm patches that did not stick to my skin, T3-4-5 steroid injection, C7 epidural, a 5 ingredient cream with clondine that caused incoherent speach and light headiness. Has anyone tried starting a Zovirax dsage regime at this point? I am running out of options. The affected area, right pectoral muscle, shoulder is super sensitive to any clothing. The right biceps-triceps total area is extremely painful with electrical shock-like explosions going off all day long. Sleep is 4-5 hours a night max with multiple interuptions. Any and all
suggestions welcome.
I've had shingles 10 weeks and no treatment has given any relief to date?

speedskating,
No, do not start wih Zovirax at this point, it would be useless and could cause kidney and other long term problems. Since you have had all the usual treatments for shingles, I know they are unbearably painful, the best course of action at this point would be, as my father, an old country doc and big time surgeon would say... needs "a tincture of time to heal". What else can you do? You have the benefit of multiple researchers and doctors try any and all things that should lessen the "outbreak", nothing is working. The best and only thing you can do now is put on loose clothes and sit back in your recliner and meditate, practice yoga, pray that God has mercy on your ever loving soul, quit focusing on you... try to figure out the plan to PEACE ON EARTH.
Peace out,

Hi Laura - Many thanks for your input. My Pain Management Dr is going to "try' different block injections ASAP. As far as stting around and waiting that's all I have done. Loose fitting clothing of any material is out of the question because of my skin sensitivity, so I go "topless" all the time. I rarely go out pof the house for anything. I hate to be the "classic" case; my PCP Dr says I'm why the vaccine is on the market and I blew it by not getting the shot. I'm making a point to tell anyone to get the shot!
Have you tried Lyrica? My son got a bad case of shingles on his face near the eye. They gave him Lyrica & he said it did wonders for the pain, but made his vision blurry which is a side effect that goes away once treatment is over, but he worked & had to see well to preform his job so he had to stop the treatment, but it did help with the pain... Mary
Mary, everybody's mother,
I truly loveth thou, but pregabalin and gabapentin are very close pharmacodymanically, and me thinks the cost/benefit ratio not worth taking. And I would like to see speed at his pain doctors topless!!!
Just kidding speed, but u could do the world a great service if you could ponder your brain and wrap it around the "Peace on Earth" situation.

OMG, stupid hippie,
I just had my right shoulder reconstructed last August, the anesthesiologist gave me a nerve block that was marvelous until it wore off. Absolutely no pain post open for 12 hours. Then of wore off and I promptly ate 8 mg of Dilaudid and passed out (already had my oxy on board). Ask about that speed and much luck to you and your doc.
The Thinking Hippie,
Laura
Lyrica and Gaabapentin; neither had shown any effect.
Lyrica/gabapentin... not much difference to me except $$$$ for Lyrica... but please ask about the nerve block I had for right shoulder surgery ..just thinking ... my Fentanyl has worn off... new one hasn't kicked in... all I can think about is PAIN and DRUGS!!!
God please help me til I see my pain doc on Thursday.
The Not Suffering In Silence Hippie
Hmmm. I tried gabepentin, didn't work, but does for hubbies pain, but I take or did til yesterday, Lyrica & can tell the difference almost immediatly. Different strokes for different folks!
And Mary, my love,
That's what keeps the pharmaceutical companies in business my sweet. If every type med helped everybody ...
Geez, I'm getting too political!
The Weirdo Hippie
Go read my new question, & pick that hippie brain of yours for awhile would ya, please... Mary
I broke out July 15. I had immediate treatment. Anti-viral, two epidurals, various prescriptions including gabapentin, Icy Hot patches for pain and today will start using Aspercreme Lotion with Lidocaine. I do believe the old country doctor is correct in saying sit back in recliner and relax with iPad in your lap. This, too, shall pass. I hope. The sooner, the better.
