I have taken Aciphex for years with no problem. Now my insurance will only pay for the new generic. I am nauseated in the morning and even more so at night and feel terrible. Is anybody else experiencing this?
Anybody reacting negatively to new generic of Aciphex?

And now I have a new problem! My insurance will only pay for one a day instead of the two a day I've always taken. Changed doctors since she has not appealed after asking her several times. Will see what the new doctor says. Has anybody else run into this?
When I would have to take aciphex 2 times a day, my GI gave me samples, enough for the extra one. My insurance only covers 1 a day as well. Sorry you're having this trouble.
Thank you! Will definitely ask about samples!
The generic Aciphex does not work for me either and I found this forum hoping to find out if others were having issues. How can we let the manufacturer know that their product is sub-standard? I plan to write and call so my complaint can be documented. Does any one else plan to do the same?
The insurance companies are going to make us take the generic because it is so expensive, so we have to make our problems heard.
I am very sorry for everyone here that is experiencing their old symptoms back, I know how much pain is involved. I also have GERD, Barrett's, hiatal hernia, etc.
Perhaps we should make a Facebook sight dedicated to making our pain known to everyone. I can't think of how to make a name without causing problems using Brands and copyrights.
I am so glad I found this forum. I'm in tears right now with the pain and burning and acid burps and horrible bowels. My insurance switched me to generic aciphex three weeks ago. I feel awful. I had years of completely controlled symptoms. Ive asked for the name brand back and was declined. I've tried many of the PPIs with no success. Ugh.
Let me tell you I'm fighting the VA right now with this generic. I have been taking the brand Aciphex for years with no problems. I have GERD with Barrett's and IBS. So the VA decided to switch me to the Mylan generic rabeprazole and about a month into it I started getting all the side effects. Mostly the stomach and abdominal ones. I as the patient told my doctor and basically thought I was crazy. I think the possibility or coincidence that it's something other than the generic is pretty slim. I'm tired of doctors not listening to their patients. They act as if there is no possibility that a generic is inferior to a brand. I was quoted that the FDA says that the bio equivalence is exactly the same. Yeah ok so I am to believe that there's no possibility and that the FDA oversees every little thing to ensure it's exactly the same? Ummm no! LOL. Rant over. I would like to see more people in here having the same issues as we all are.
I have been using aciphex for many years. My insurance changed me to the generic rabeprazole. my symptoms have returned and now I am having severe heartburn , nausea , stomach cramps and other IBS realted issues- I am going to discuss this with my Doctor this week and hopefully IMy condition has always been chronic can get it resolved. I had a scope last january and at that time I was on aciphex, not generic and I was doing well.
I too have been on Aciphex for years and have been successful in treating my symptoms of GERD. The VA also just recently changed me over to the generic form. I called my VA Doc and told her the problem and she kept asking me if I was sure it wasn't something else. I explained the stomach pains and nausea. I was ticked off that she thought i was making it up. She finally sent an order for the Brand Formula and I am waiting patiently as I can but I am all out of Aciphex and am wondering which OTC Med to try? Anyone have a suggestion? I am thinking maybe Prevacid 30mg or Prilosec.
I'm having the same problem with the generic aciphex, that's all you can get now and only one a day that insurance will pay for, I to have tried other ppIs with no success to.
My insurance company also forced me to change from AcipHex to its generic. I started having all the same symptoms each of you describe. Are any of you wheat free, gluten free or have celiac disease? Once I got my doctor to put me back on AcipHex, all of the symptoms stopped and the eczema from the wheat allergy went away. I'm thinking the generic has some type of wheat additive in it. Feedback please.
I have tried a number of generics for rabeprazole and from best to worst, in order, Teva, Torrent, Kremers, Lupin. Teva is excellent. The one time I got Lupin it had no effect. I took it back. The others listed are fine, just not quite as good as Teva. I am trying a new one today because my pharmacy had only the new one and Lupin.
These insurance companies are out of control! They are telling us (I am stuck on Medicaid due to the fact that I was only 3 months shy of receiving SSD with MEDICARE as I became disabled on the job. I get SSI and cannot even opt out of the horrendously abusive "health care choices" in Pennsylvania. I even tried contacting Social Security. Nope. Civil Rights. Declined in a FORM LETTER) in effect, "you can't afford it so you can't be healthy. nanananana!" I had the same experience with my pharmacy switching generic Adderall manufacturers. I reported the effect to my pharmacist and doctor. I got my usual generic back. For now. Look. We can't fight this as individuals. Lawyers that are worth anything cost $$$$ and the insurance companies KNOW THIS. WE SERIOUSLY NEED TO GET TOGETHER ON A FORUM SUCH AS THIS and file a CLASS ACTION SUIT. I'm in. Anyone???
Yes, I have been on the mylan version of rabeprazole sodium( also known by the brand name aciphex )and I have notices sub par performance over several months. I tried giving it an adjustmentment period in case the body needed to get used to a slightly different but in theory same pill. Ply if there was any chance a small cold or other virus was causing stomach issues at a low level creating a false positive. Not that option ether.
The only thing I can say is yes there is a difference between the generic rabeprazole and the main brand name aciphex I have tried. Equally the insurance company demands the generic or its $700.00 seven hundred USA dollars for a months supply. Not a doable option on my income level.
Absolutely a difference between Aciphex and its new generic form, rabeprazole.
My symptoms of LPR(Laryngopharyneal Reflux) have returned with a vengeance since starting the generic. The brand Aciphex is truly prohibitively expensive!
I have been quoted over $1000 for a 3 mos. supply. How many can afford these prices and must suffer because of the greed of the drug companies.
I am so glad that I found this forum! I have been on aciphex for several years and it has completely controlled my acid reflux. But since I started the generic form, my acid reflux has come back worse than ever. I wondered if I was the only one to experience this. I know everyone says that generic is the same, but in this case I don't agree. I'm not sure what I am going to do now, but a trip to my GI probably will be next. This stinks.
My hubby was having the same problem and nothing helped. So he called his prescription company up and the person on the phone said it can be covered by DAW dispense exclusion that there is a form the doctor has to fill out to state that all medication have not been helping him and to state the only working for him is Aciphex.
. So please call your insurance company out and maybe you can do the same thing.
I completely agree, the generic rabeprazole is not effective at all, and I am miserable since being forced to switch to it 3 months ago. About 3 weeks after switching from Aciphex to rabeprazole, I started having the same symptoms that I had when I wasn't taking any medication. This stuff is AWFUL! Makes me hate generics and insurance companies. Any recommendations for good alternatives that will give me relief without breaking my bank?
My Dr. called my insurance company to tell them that the Rabeprazole was not helping, nor were any of the other PPI drugs I tried. See the comment by babygroup75. I believe the insurance companies call it a formulary exception.
It did work for us so give it a try.
I have tried several different prescription medication for my acid reflux. After being on Aciphex for several years, my insurance company is now forcing me to use the generic rabeprazole. After using the rabeprazole for three months, I can testify that it does NOT relief my acid reflux as well as Aciphex. I can't even eat small amounts of strawberries or apples. I will attempt to challenge my insurance company.
Yes, I had issues with the generic form of Aciphex too. I've been on Aciphex for several years and it was working great. I could almost eat anything that I wanted to. Then about a year ago, I started the generic form. I tried it for a YEAR hoping I would finally adjust to it, but the heartburn, nausea, and reflux was awful. I finally went to see my gastroenterologist and he wrote on my prescription that I could only take the non-generic form and miraculously my insurance company allowed that. It still was going to be expensive, so I went online to the Aciphex website and found a coupon that allows me to get it for $20 a month! Please look up their website and see if the coupon would help you. I am now feeling better and hope that I can continue on this medication indefinitely. I hope this helps you. Regardless of what anyone says, there are differences in generic and non-generic sometimes. I feel like a year was plenty of time to see if it would work.
Yes, my pharmacies will only give me the generic rabeprazole 20 mg instead of the aciphex brand name. My generic is made by MYLAN, and it does not work. My acid problems cause horrible problems with my teeth. The generic has allowed the acid reflux to eat away all of the enamel on my teeth on the bottom molars, front teeth, and I had to pay to get crowns, which is costing thousands of $$!
My dentist said in 6 months the acid has done more damage on my teeth than an average person would get in about 15 years??? He sent me with photos to show my dr. My parents spent thousands of dollars on braces, and took me to the dentist every 6 months, n the acid is just eating away at my teeth so bad they are falling apart. Why is the FDA letting these companies say this is the same medicine when it clearly is not. Please let me know if anyone else takes this and is having these problems as well. Thank u for reading!! I'm so glad my wonderful dentist found this site. Son
Aciphex was prescribed by my doctor, because the generic (rabeprazole) didn't seem to work for my stomach ailment. I even made another attempt to use the generic, but it created such discomfort that it was simply intolerable. My insurance company wouldn't authorize the aciphex, because of the cost. There is a distinct difference between the two. Guess you have to pay the cost to be the boss, as the saying goes. But, we're talking about our a health issue. So, it is what it is. Oh! incidentally, I've placed an order for aciphex, from the Canada Drug Center. The cost is much less, for brand name medications. I'm currently awaiting information.
Both my son and I take Aciphex. It is the ONLY drug that has EVER worked. Our insurance also will not pay for the name brand. I suggest you do what we have done for years. Contact RXoutreach.org. They can provide a laundry list of medications at VERY reasonable prices. We pay $30 for 90 days supply of name brand Aciphex. It is easy to qualify and your doc can fax the script, they mail it to you, very simple. Please consider this alternative. It has been a life saver for us. Good luck.
Check Manufacturer - Been down the same road and have found that there are different manufacturers (three, I think) of the rabeprazole sodium. I asked my pharmacy for the name of the manufacturer they used. Then I searched for a pharmacy that used a different manufacturer. I found the generic brand and manufacturer that provides me the same relief as Aciphex. Hope this information helps. Good Luck!!
Yes I had a bad reaction to generic aciphex (Rabeprazole Sodium) after taking it for about 5-6 days. Both my hands swelled up like baseball gloves. It is NOT the same as the brand name Aciphex.
