I'm hoping there is someone that can help and answer this question. My son is 19 and is suffering terribly with OCD its ruining his life. He can't work and now he can't leave the house and panics about being left alone. I as his mum and also his dad are trying to support him as best we can, but really have no idea how to. My question is has anyone had any positive outcome with medications? He has started on Lovan 40 mg per day and another medication has been suggested called Abilify. Any thoughts?

I am sorry about your what your son is going through.
Yes, medications do work, but they take a bit of time to adjust and start working, usually by the 2nd week there are improvements and for the full therapeutic effects it may take 4 to 8 weeks, so be patient.
Your son may or may not experience potential side effects the first couple of weeks but they do subside in the majority of persons taking medications.
All you can do now is give your son your support and understanding, circumstances will get better do not be discouraged if the meds prescribed do not work the way you expect them to, it is a trial and error until your son finds the right meds.
Lovan is used to treat OCD and Abilify is quite a good med too, I have been on it and it has helped me treat other conditions.
Do not lose your faith, as your son will get better, talking from experience.
All the best to you and your family, masso
Hi again,
I did some research and the active ingredient of Lovan is Fluoxetine.
Fluoxetine is prescribed among other conditions for OCD and it is quite good, thought I let you know.
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. It is reassuring to know that things can get better for him. Its is so upsetting to see him suffer and all you want to do is take away the pain. Thank you again
You are welcome and I sincerely wish for everything to work out fine for your son and your family.
