I have been taking it for about a year and I'm on day five. I am hurting really bad. If I was to take a narcotic pain pill would it bring my symptoms back to day one?

I heard that for some people that they feel a lot better after day 7 but its really based on how many they took a day
Hi, I had surgery in may and for the pain I was prescribed 5/325 Percocet I have a very high tolerance for pain meds so I slowly started upping my dosage till I got to 20mg when I noticed that wasn't helping I decided I was going to start weening myself off dropping 5mg each time and I started noticing the withdrawals and I took my last 5mg thurs night and the withdrawals have just been getting worse. I need to find some way to help with this since I'm a stay at home mom with a 4yr old and a 9 month old baby? Any suggestions would help.
Thank you
Busamama
I was on 20mg oxycontin twice a day 40 mg of oxycodone 6 times day and 8mg of oral dilaudid for any break through pain usually 4 a day... all for 3 yrs... it took 2 weeks to get past the worst of the symptoms... what helped was pepto for the stomach... a very light diet at first... and just keep moving... excercise when possible... even at almost 2 months out feeling after effects... but it is possible to push past... just take it one day at a time...
Thanks. I was on 130 mgs of oxycodone a day for several years and have been off for three weeks and still feel tired, ache all over, headaches, but not the acute symptoms. I will admit to taking one Tramadol for a really bad headache a week ago and wish I had not. Total withdrawal is much longer term process than most people think and look forward to. And yes, one pill of any narcotic will set you back days. Stay dry! I should have known better, I am a MD.
What is every doing for the pain. I'm on day 5, and I am in major pain. Called to get a refill and can't get until Sunday. I'm about to die with pain. Have had lots of surgeries in past 3 years!
Try Kratom. Use 6grams in OJ or Sunny D. It will almost stop the withdrawal symptoms. You can find it at health food stores and some smoke shops. It is expensive $75 for 120grams, but it is worth it. You can order it off Amazon too
Day 5 congrats. Im also on day 5. I dont think taking one pill at this point is your answer. Think about what got you here in the first place. It wasnt because you could take just one and feel better right? Unless you have someone to count your pills and ration them for you. You cant trust yourself to take them at this point cause how you feel now isnt in complete right state if mind. Make the right decision. I feel alot better now than i did yesterday. And amazing compared to how i felt on day 1 or 2 or 3. I know it gets better cause im living proof. I was taking more than 40 mlg a day. Hang in there!
Here is how i have come to see it, It is surprising how small a dose you can cut down to and how quickly without barreling into (heavy) withdrawl. Its important to get to the smallest dose you can as fast as you can,yes it will be uncomfortable but not HELL. DO IT FAST BECAUSE YOUR DETERMINATION TO QUIT NEEDS TO OUTLAST THE WITHDRAWL!! In my case I went from 10 Percocet and 4 lortab per day to just 1\2 a percocet per day within 4 days. Splitting tiny little pieces off the 1/2 throughout the day. It was just enough for my body to sense that the narcotic was still present. After i held at this super low dose for a 5 days i went to zero! i was feeling pretty normal in a surprising 4 days.. An those 4 days were not the hell i experienced the first attempt to quit cold turkey( in which case the hell broke down my will within 8 days) best of luck to whoever is reading this, you can do it!
i am on day one anything that can help the restless legs. i cant sleep at all and have to work. want to be off these things so bad. they have ruined my life completely
perks are for jerks
This depends on how long and how much you've been taking. After 10 fun filled years of using it for serious pain control taking any dose at all of oxy will put me in withdrawals. Also, that 4 day withdrawal is bs if you've been a long time loser. Try a month of pure hell. Which is incentive to quit. Good luck to anyone going through this.
Day 3 , off to the gym. Not too excited but little up beat. Thanks kava, Passion flower and n.o. Explode.
I'm on day one of taking about 4 to 5 10 mg of oxy a day for about a year. I've had withdrawal every month from running out and the withdrawals are so hard! The restlessness and achyness. Motrin just takes the edge off!!! Help please, I can't sleep
Hey guys , I’m on day 8 and I have 0 appetite , great moments of clarity and awful moments of depression all in one day .. bunny hills of emotions .. got on here because I can’t really talk to anyone about this that understands.. I guess just need to know if anyone out there is clean and feeling better if there’s hope
I was on a 80-150mg Roxy a day for 2 years. I am on day 2. I started taking subs. 2mg in the am 2mg in the pm. Luckily, I have felt pretty good the whole time so far. I went to my 1st AA/NA meeting today , and if gave me one hope. Keep you head up Scared. Think, it can only get better. If you start taking pills again, it can only get worse.
I was on 2-80mg oxy, 1-30mg Roxy and 1-30mg adderall in am for 4 years due to severe back deteriation and adult ADHD and stomach cancer. Every time its harder and harder to fill RX. I've been without now for 3 days but I had a small reserve. I cut back to only 1-30mg oxy a day. I'm really going thru it. Should I quit cold or continue with the reduced amount until that's depleted? Someone help please.thank you. Oh, and I take orally everything.
I am on day 3 but I took like 5 5s yesterday. So technically I guess day one again. I take 500 to 600 mgs a day... I really want to quit but I havent slept in all three days I am so tired but I can't sleep. I dont know what to do?
I'm on day 4 and 1,2,3 was the worst! I'm starting to feel better. It helps if you have a great spouse who helps you to get through this. I am taking Imodium a.d. , benadryl, Gatorade. I'm thinking that I could take a walk but I still don't have any energy. I'm going to keep pushing through this because I have no other option. Good luck to everyone who is pushing through this. I can't wait to feel normal again.
I'm right where you are when you posted this. On day 4 off oxycodone and feeling a little better but still dealing with stomach issues. I know it's been awhile but how are you now?
Brooke
Know you’re not alone. God bless. Stay strong. You’ll eventually come out the other side. For me I’m afraid that’s where the hard part might start.
I'm in the same situation ur in and its hard but u will get.thru.this. stay strong and take it one.minute at a time. It took.me a week to feel better after being on oxys for about two.months. so I'm not sure it could be.diff for each person.
I myself have been through 2 relapses of hydros and I can tell you it gets very difficult the first week. Especially if you need to work a job that requires personality and a smile. This is very hard to do when you feel like crying on the inside. The good part though is that you will eventually smile on your own again. You will feel as good sober as you did when you were taking pills. The world may seem extremely weird and scary the first week but every day you will get better. Try to get your financial situation right and ESP your job and then sleep sleep sleep. When you are ready exercise like you never have before and then all will be well
Well I am on day 7. I feel pretty good nervous as can be I have generalized anxiety disorder I have been takin Wellbutrin to help it works well don't know how it will go when it is gone. How long before I get some energy back
Congratulations for getting to day 7!! I really don't know alot about generalized anxiety disorder, but I have been through opiate withdrawal a few times. I am now on the methadone program because that is what is working for me, but I can tell you from the few times that I went through cold turkey withdrawal it can take some time before your energy returns to normal, but everyone is different. It sounds like you are doing really well, making it to the 7th day is a good thing. Just try to hang in there and I would try going to NA or AA meetings for extra support!
Good Luck to you!!
Hey, I'm on day 7 as well. It has not been a fun week but I can say that every day gets a little easier. Couldn't miss much work so had to hang in there last week - stayed home on my 3rd day-definitely the hardest. Now my lack of energy and lack of sleep are my mine issues. So tired, and will I ever get my energy back or was that all pill induced? I worry about the future
Started taking hydro 10s a couple yes ago due to my terrible back. I am 33 yrs old, and have totally been in depression already due to finding out that I had to have a fusion L5 s1. At this point i was put on oxycodone I got this done July 18th of this summer. I work at a school and have only been able to work 2 days due to all of this and not healing. I ran out of my last script 3 days ago and refuse to continue. I never even realized what these pills. Have done to my body..I've been just miserable for 3,days and from what I'm reading and feeling.I know I have a long said ahead
I am 48 hours into opiate withdraw and I feel pretty good. I'm kicking a ten year daily habit. I am taking loperamide, which is Imodium. It tricks the opiate receptors and helps tremendously... I've been hospitalized 8 times due to withdraws... I had to have my gall bladder out bc of the severe vomiting. But I feel fine this time taking loperamide, tramadol, benadryl, cough syrup with dm. Hope this helps... it is for me.
Please be careful with the tramadol. It is also very addictive and causes severe withdrawal symptoms itself.
ive been 'weening' off at home, i was taking 80-120mg last friday and as of yesterday i made myself suffer all day and only took 5mg at night to help me sleep. the worst part of it for me is the anxiety, sometimes i get so anxious i panick and feel like i can't breathe and can't sit still, like i need to rip my heart out as bad as that sounds. im also bipolar and because ive been sick and anxious i only started eating yesterday.. taking my meds on an empty stomache makes me sick so i haven't taken them at all. The worst parts for me are the anxiety and severe depression and seperatin anxiety.. I'm wondering should i just go cold turkey from here on out, or should i keep taking 5mg for a couple days to make it not as bad on me or is that just bringing back my withdrawl symptoms?
Thank you so much for your advice i think it may just work for me. I have been on 9 10 mg vicodin a day for over three years and its destroying my life. I don't have insurance and my Dr. who was prescribing them to me retired. I was unable to find a Dr. who would prescribe them to me because of my age long term. Iam 27. Two very large knee surgeries in the past. yet still pain.:( Today i went to the er with no insurance and they wouldn't give me anything ,but tramadol for the pain, to be honest i was more worried about the crawls its the worst I think. Pure misery. Hopefully the benadryl helps with that i will get right on trying ur recipe. Thank you jenala914
Tramadol is not bad as long as you take it as prescribed and for short periods of helping with initial w/d I do not see it doing any damage.
I'm new here and day 2 of withdrawals. What can you take for the horrible stomach pains? 7 hours is enough. Tums and pepto are not doing anything. I took Imodium and scared to take more if it's what's causing this
You geel fine cause your taking tramadol
Smh
jenala914 you still have the devil to pay. Especially Tramadol which has a fairly long half life and stays around for 3 or 4 days, when you REALLY finally quit, you will still have to have some bad days, I promise. You may as well just stop and be done with it. If you can't, go to a treatment facility.
Just saw this post. How did you make out? You say u felt good how long did u have to take that mix of meds before depending on absolutely nothing ???
How many 2mg loperamide pills, in your opinion, could I Safely take? I am day 7 off of 20-30mg of Oxycodone a day. If that helps..
How are you doing today
You should definitely keep up with lowering the gradual dosage strength and the number of pills. You won’t get withdrawal symptoms . Use a calendar and plan it out . It usually for me anyways takes 3 weeks but no symptoms of withdrawal . Those are the worst , I missed work a couple times . Feels like a really bad flu. But what really bothered me was the restless leg symptoms, I could hardly sleep. It helps if you wrap something tight as you can around your body , like a mummy( but not your face , lol)
Sweetlemon, Subzero, and Patti, all gave excellent advice. Take what you think will help you most from a combination of those 3 answers. Look up the Thomas Recipe, find strength in knowing it WILL get better, and try to get some physical activity started. Keep yourself well hydrated and visit here often. I know it seems like forever, but you are past the worst part of it. Don't give in to 1 pill. It will not help you and you will feel so proud of yourself for not taking it! THAT is will power, that is how you will get through this. Focus on getting well, eating better, exercise, and post often to let us know how you're doing.
Best wishes,
chris
LSD trips r really awesome for withdraws. Helped me a lot! Like almost over nite!
Im day 10 on WD this is hard and im so tired. My mind tells me u need a pill for energy but thats the devil talking. I just wanna feel better fast and i think this group may help
Is targin a harmful drug after being on 60 mg of oxycontin for a number of years
I am on day 3... I'm so over this, but I have no one to talk to. Erg
Faith it will get better , prayers to thank God for helping as we know he is and a type of recipe ( no drugs)
I’ve had 2 back surgery’s so I’m very familiar with Percocet . I had 1 awful withdrawal, I ran out on Friday and couldn’t get my refill til Monday . I had been on them for at least 6 months . The first thing that happened was sneezing and acessive yawning . Then the restless leg syndrome the next day and I couldn’t sleep , I got diarrhea in the 2nd day and day 3 I was throwing up , diarrhea, and cold sweat . Very weak also . I got my refill on Monday and the first pill took all those feelings away. But I’ve learned to set up on a calendar a tapering dose based on how many pills you have . If you’ve been on them a long time you need to taper slowly , like if you were on 10’s 4xa day , go to half a pill for a week 3 times a day , at least . then cut the dosage in half for another week to 10 days 2 a day , then go to I/2 a piill once a day for the next 4-5 days. It’s hard but keep reminding yourself of how withdrawal was !!!
Most people say they get better each day but it may take around 3 weeks to feel much better. If u r physically able to start walking 4 exercise, it will do several things that will help shorten the duration and severity of WD. it produces endorphins, they make u feel better mentally and physically, helps reboot the damaged parts of the brain's system of naturally releasing its own opiates<reboots it> it helps regulate the Eat/sleep/wake cycles. Don't over do it, get sore and quit, just start with a few min. per day and work up. And keep busy, it will take ur mind off the misery. I know that's a tall order, but it will help. Try and answer some ques. here, it'll keep u busy. good luck, patti

I'm on day 19 of wd's. Feel very tired and no energy! I now wake up every morning about 4am. I was taking about 50 10mgs vicodin a day. This sucks and I didn't think it would take this long? Went to to doc last Thursday and told him the truth and he is doing blood work on me! Can't talk to any one about this!
taking some kind of opiate pill will not take you back to day one unless its the same thing you are detoxing from.but if it was left to me to make the call,i say dont do it.the reason doctors use methadone or suboxone to detox a person is because both of those drugs are made in a diffrent way.keep this in mind when you are wondering how many days you have left to go before you start feeling normal.its not gonna happen overnight or in a certain number of days.its a process, each day is gonna feel bad up to a certain point.then your gonna be able eat a little more than the day before, sleep will come back a few minutes or hours more each day.the key is to keep liquids in you then a little soup and so on.be strong you are over the worst of it.god bless you we all must get strength from him and each other... tex here 24/7 and someone will be here for you. you may not know it but the people on day 1,2,3,and day 4 are reading what you say on day 5.thank you from all of them and from all of us who are drawing from your strength... pete
Well said Pete!
Your comments help. Feeling like crap!
this is my day 3 so thanks for this! My worst prob is i have no energy at all and im always yawning. When i go to sleep though my legs wont stop moving and they hurt so bad. My mood goes high to low. Im already prescribed cymbalta and xanax but they cymbalta makes me feel worse and the xanax makes me feel drunk. I have been taking my colonopin that i was prescribed before xanax and it helps me sleep for about 3 hours at a time. I have been more depressed than usual and my sinus' are going crazy. Im actually on lortabs for a medical reason but it go so bad i took 60 within 4 days. I dont get my refill for over a week and after that im taking them the way im supposed to so i never have to do this again. Im also very sensitive. me and my long term bf are def on the rocks tonight bc every thing he does and says makes me just wanna slap him!!! Does anyone else have these same prob?
I've been taking 3 to 4 oxy codon a day for 3 years.. An wanna stop bad... I can across some hydrocodone 7.5 watsons an tranadol ... Will this help detox or just prolong it??? I've took three one day an been getting away with only two so far( on days I don't wirk) I work 40+ hrs a week a can't take any time off... :(
Thank you Pete. On day 4. Still haven't ate but plenty of fluids and ensure's. Anxiety is ridiculous. Have got through the aches. Still can't eat. Been able to sleep using (the correct dosage), Benadryl, ibuprofen, and Imodium for the diarrhea. Going to attempt to actually get out side and force myself to walk. How many days till the insane anxiety go away. Last night my hallucinations were hardcore as well.
Yes me too!! I am getting ready to start some time this evening to stop taking oxycodone. I have for the past 4 - 5 days been trying to taper off it doesn't seem to be working so well that way. I'm considering talking to my doctor today and possibly going a different route. was wondering if there was any suggestions of what I might ask for that helps with the withdrawals.
I had a spinal cord injury 3 years ago an on disability have been on prescription pain meds for more than 7 years because of back surgerys... I can't persist in borrowing money for pain meds any longer this is my 3rd day of sleeping and not eating ... it's a terrible existence. ..help!!#
I've been on pain meds to 1° or another for 10 years and I was on 30 mg of OxyContin a day and 30 mg grams of Percocet today and this is day four for me. It has been a complete nightmare hell on earth. I have been in bed or four days i'm feeling better today I wouldn't be writing this. My question is does anyone else around here now how much harder it is if you have several medical conditions serious ones at that.
I have an ottoman disorder called scleroderma I can affect the whole body, I also have a condition called autonomic neuropathy which causes a lot of nerve pain in the body and the main nerve going down my body the new Vegas nerve is damaged and I feel like I have 1000 needles gone through my veins sometimes also have a condition names pots it's a postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome and when I change positions I get horrible sensations in my body because my body doesn't like to change your blood pressure or blood and it also causes blood pooling which can cause horrible nights keeps me awake at night so I have a lot of internal symptoms causing me quite a lot of discomfort . I really want to try to get off the pain meds because they're ruining my life I husbands on them as well and we fight awful sometimes he has a very serious spine condition there's no hope for him his spine is twisted and his trunk a foot and he has a lot of pain so he's probably never going to get off his penis in this to come up with some sort of contraption or treatment for it he does however a spinal cord stimulator inserted in his spine which she thought helps quite a bit but if he's active at all it does nothing to help the pain so he has add on pain medicine of oxycodone and OxyContin as well and we're both stubborn and we like to keep active so we do things and we do more than we should then we get more paint and then we need more medicine it's just a vicious cycle and I want off Plus if I don't get off if one of us doesn't get off probably not gonna make it because it gets really ugly so if anyone knows if there's any hope for me with these conditions that I have with autoimmune neuropathy pain's internal blood pooling causing pain and other things as well I would really like some advice thank you so much
I realize this comment is almost 8 years old but I had to comment. Yes, Pete, those of us on day 1 thru 4 are definitely hoping to project ahead by hearing how it gets better. So, how’s that day 5? Anyone? I’m on day 1 and it’s sucking but I’m determined to get through. This has been going on for way too long and I’m ready to hop off this bus.

day ONE is absolutely said and perfectly put. 100% correct and true, and Faith has a lot to matter. 99.999% can do it alone> Faith is a very BIG word: I am weak and NO WAY could I have done it alone. HE carried me then- He will carry me in the future. My and you and billions of others . simply have/keep Faith. The roadblocks and detours are numerous. It can, and quits often does, works.
Hi scared,
Can you add how much you were taking? It sort of depends on the amount, and the way you were taking them, ingesting, snorting or shooting up.
Please add that info so we can better help you.
If you were taking a small amount I'd say you are almost out of the woods.
I know how horrid WD from opiates can be, I am just over a year off of them, and please know there is life after opiate dependance/addiction.
It will get better every day, this I promise.
Please try not to take another pill, as this will set you back.
Best wishes to you,
sweetlemon
Forgot to add, please google The Thomas Recipe, it will provide you with a list of over the counter meds you will need while in withdrawal.
After withdraw how long does it take to get your full energy back I take two or three 80mg oxys a day please let me know this is the only help I can seek thank you
Yeah its really hard I really do no know if I can take it its been 7 and. Man am I feeling rough how long does this tk my body is almost ready to give up help
Anyone know if any withdrawel from taking a 30mg pill of oxycontin. Not a regular user ,just wondering if there'd be any or how much withdrawal for taking once?
I was taking 2 vicaden per day for pain management for almost 16 months I told the doc o didn't want to take the anymore I'm on day 3 and ache really bad no appetite I'm keeping fluids down ok just how long and what can I do to ease the aches and skin crawllies lol
I was taking 3-4 15 MG of oxy daily and had been on the drug for over a year with different strengths. My doctor always just gave me a prescription, no problem. I was taking it for severe back pain. This past Wednesday I was out of drugs and decided to detox myself. Well I did it and here I am 4 days later not feeling too bad, not near as bad as days 1-2. I DO NOT recommend this as I was so miserable and sick, especially the first 2 days. There are drugs that you can get or get a prescription for that will help. I am seeing my doctor next week and will seek a NON-NARCOTIC drug for my back pain. Never again! Joan
Is targin alright to take afteoxycontinr
Thank you Pete. On day 4. Still haven't ate but plenty of fluids and ensure's. Anxiety is ridiculous. Have got through the aches. Still can't eat. Been able to sleep using (the correct dosage), Benadryl, ibuprofen, and Imodium for the diarrhea. Going to attempt to actually get out side and force myself to walk. How many days till the insane anxiety go away. Last night my hallucinations were hardcore as well.
ONE PILL will take you back to day one. I know the person who wrote this has already taken a pill or didn't, but if you're reading this and you are thinking about taking one pill, please don't do it! You go back to day one! Take it one day at a time and get help. Church, meetings, Temple, whatever spiritual answer to this problem. But please don't give in, you are almost free!
Hello everyone. I'm a 32 yr old pregnant mother of 2. I'm 12 weeks along. On day 12 of WD and just wondering when do I get my strength back?! Mentally I'm going insane staring at the same 4 walls. I was taking 30 mg oxycodone 4-5x daily for 2 years. No one knows I'm fighting this battle (everyone thinks I have the flu) and I'm out of help with my kids and am having to do everything myself now. I can totally see why people would take something else to help the WD symptoms. My worst was days 4-8. I wouldn't take anything but vitamins if my life depended on it now but man this is rough rough rough. By the way I am taking prenatals and chugging Gatorade by the gallons. Still no energy but it is getting better every day.
Day 16 and I'm worse than yesterday. Horrible back pains and a hard time breathing when I get up. Please tell me there's an end in sight. Very near sight.
I am on day 7 is there no end? I was on percocet for 6 years. The detox is horrendous. Howe long do I have to fight these symptoms? Hopeless
Hello, my name is Mel, I have been reading on post people are writing. I have real pain and I gave had several surgeries. I have been on pain medicine for ten years. I want to get off pain medicine but I am scarred of having any issues. I work a lot and I can not afford to take time off work. But I know I need to quit being dependent on them to get through work and deal with the pain. My pain is very real but I believe the pills or the thought of taking them are making me depressed. What advice can you give me. I honedtly have been taking 6-10 pills aday this past ywar. I am a manger, mother, and a hard worker. I however know that the amount is why too much. I know there has to be help out there for me descrectly. I do not have insurance. Please any advice will help. What I can do but at the same time I do not want to be in extreme pain. I have a liver bio leakage and have never been the same. I have had 4 knee surgeries and now I need a knee replacement.
I also have arthritis severely what do I do. Help me figure what what to do and how to do it. And who I might be able to get help.
Oh, also, I have been on them for 5 years. It has changed me from a loving, energetic, vibrant mom, and wife to an apathetic nothing. That's why I feel hopeless.
I am 4 days into stopping taking 10mg oxycodonex4 a day. I tapered of to 2 a day a month ago maybe 3 on a bad day. I'm hurting how much longer do I have to go.
