At one time. Also known as diphenhydramine.
Hello mike623. Its an antishistamine found in prescription medications as well as over the counter drugs. Sominex, used for sleeping, and Benadryl used for allergies and colds are two examples of the drug. Take as directed if not certain, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Regards pledge
Diphenhydramine is benadryl & usually comes in 25 mg doses OTC. You can take 2 safely at a time. The max dose for 24 hours is 300mg, but have never heard of anyone taking this much, & definately not all at once. How many you take at one time also depends on others meds you may take also. You don't want to be mixing this with other CNS depressants that will make you sleepy...
This is bs people saying u can take 300 mg a day!! I take 2 25mg each night for my allergies and to sleep and just called my doc to c if I could take Niquill also because it has the same active ingredient as Benadryl and he said DO NOT DO IT! So at the 50mg I've taken he said anymore would be dangerous!! So ppl get your facts straight cause my info came from a doctor so y'all on here taking random ppls advice better be careful!!!
Well benadryl usually comes in 25mg tablets, and I have experimented with this OTC medicine allot. Professionals say the max dose in 24 hours is 300mg but I have took allot more than that each day for quite awhile and it has done no harm to me, although I wouldn't codone you using it the way I have, I can't say that its going to hurt you. Although these medicines filled with diphenhydramine have been known to cause heart rhythm problems in the long run and they'll probably could cause kidney and liver problems in the long run also, so whatever you choose to do just be safe and be smart.
I take 100mg of Benadryl all at once when I have a hard time sleeping. I have now for 2 years. If my anxiety is bad I take 2 pills in a 10 hour time span and the other 2 to help me sleep. Lately I have been having restless leg syndrome. But I'm not too worried. It can cause that. I won't take more than 100mg.
I take 200mg (4 50mg softgels) every night. But my tolerance is really high. I've been taking them for sleep regularly since I was 15. I have SEVERE insomnia issues. I took 300mg about 3 hours ago and I'm still not asleep. I'm not even sleepy. It's 12:30 am and I just took 2 more. I waited 30 minutes in between the two to make sure it still wasn't working. I weigh 134 lbs. Hopefully this amount (400mg) will put me to sleep. But as i said I've been taking benadryl for 8 years now. So my tolerance is probably way higher than a person who hasn't been taking it this long. Although I'm sure you would be fine if you took more than the recommended dose. Just don't take over 200mg if you don't take it every night.
I’ve taken up to 400mg at bedtime, and it works well. Less than that does nothing for me, and I haven’t gotten resistant to it like you can with other meds, when you end up taking more and more. My issue with it is temporary loss of short term memory, so if I take it and don’t go to bed right away I have a really hard time remembering something I thought about 10 seconds before. It’s annoying, but temporary. What I realized, however, is that people with Alzheimer’s or dementia have these issues all the time; they can clearly remember events from 50 years ago, but forget something you tell them almost immediately. It made me appreciate what these people go through, it must be incredibly frustrating for them. But aside from the memory issues, I’ve been taking them at this dose for two years now. I figure if it starts effecting me permanently I don’t remember anyway...
My sister took 12 of these 25mg tablets at one time. Which is 400mg. 24 hours later I found her in her room unable to feel her left leg. I called the ambulance and she went to the hospital. To find out her liver is not doing good. Now she is admitted cause they said if she comes home she could go in to liver and kidney failure.
