I have been on Contrave since February 2015 and in the last two months it hasnt been working. I have a history of binge eating and got up to 196. I started Contrave and the cravings stopped! I lost 46 pounds by August 2015 and kept it off until March/April 2016. I am now up 9 pounds. No change in stress level or medications that I can think of, but now I am terrified. I have been on max dose since the second month. I want junk, sugar, and fatty stuff all the time again. Please help!
Any long time Contrave consumers experience the medicine stop working?

My doctor at Kaiser prescribed Contrave for me--but Kaiser doesn't cover it (yet?). She checked blood pressure first and told me I wouldn't be able to take Zoloft or any pain meds while on this drug (Just had knee replacement). I'm okay with that. Like many people here--I use food to fix how I feel (bored, disappointed, lonely, etc). For 7 years (until 2011) I had a food plan from 90 OA and kept 70 pounds off. That was my first abstinence. I haven't been able to get back into it (very low sugar and flour). BUT I know that after 21 days or so, my cravings for various food was gone. When it is out of my system, the physical cravings are gone. OK, so --my plan is to jump start this food plan with Contrave and get into a regiment that I know works.
I have experienced the same after 4.5 months of use. I am really having to plan my meals in order to control my portions. Before, I was able to rely on my sense of fullness from the Contrave. I tried taking a break, but noticed my cravings were considerably strong with out the meds. When I went back on, I still had cravings but they were easier to ignore. I am interested to hear more about the interactions that were mentioned in another answer post...
I have been on the drugs since 2015 with great success. The best thing that it was the fact that I could control my cravings. For the last two months, I have not been able to control them and have eaten a large amount of food items containing sugar. I have gained back nine of the 50 pounds I have lost. This has been happening for over the last three months. I am extremely disappointed. The drug was very successful at helping me avoid high fat and sugary foods. I didn’t even want to eat them. I’m going to discuss this with my doctor at the next visit.
I been taking it over a year and lost almost 50 pounds. It did stop working and I’ve gained back 25. I even took a break from it for the summer and restarted but I didn’t work like it first did. I’m very sad because I really thought it was a miracle binge eating cure. Y’all let me know if there is anything new, please!
I am not a long term user but my doctor did tell me at the tme that i would do three months and stop one month and start back three months stop one month on and off until i lost my desired weight.
I have a question for you... when you stopped for that one month and went back on it, did you have to start with the 1 in the AM for a week, 1 in the AM, 1 in the PM for a week, 2 in the AM, 1 in the MP for a week and the last week and moving forward is the full dose?
I've been on it for nearly a year. Wonderdrug at first. I lost a lot of weight. But the appetite control stopped working a few months ago, and it isn't doing anything for my metabolism. I see my doc in 2 weeks to talk about going off Contrave.
I am curious what your doctor said
My doctor took me off it, but given my weight gain, we're going to give it another try starting next month. He also recently said that they've learned more about Contrave interactions, so we'll pay closer attention to that possibility.
If you get anything available online for interactions, I would love to know. I have been on Contrave for 6 months. I swear at times it doesn't work at all and other times it does. I am learning there is a psychological aspect of weight loss that will be there regardless of weight loss drugs. I have to change my relationship with food in more than just one way.
Good Luck, you can do it!
I have heard a few say this. I have not experienced it. I think the newness wears off. I think also the appetite suppressant qualities go away.
Thank you. I cant seem to find many people that have been on it as long as I have.
I have been on it since February and I have been experiencing the same thing, over the last month I have keep gaining and loosing the same 2lbs. I have lost 44lbs so far and I am thrilled about that, but I still need to loose about 60 more and it is frustrating that it has come to a stop. I was reading where you are supposed to take your morning and evening doses 12 hours apart and mine have been more like 7, so I think I am going to try that and see if it works. I have even thought about taking a break from it and getting back on it, but I don't want to deal with the side effects again.
I put 12 pounds back on since January. It could be worse. I am not giving up just yet.
