I am about to start my prescription. Most of the side effects I read here are similar to what I had while I took Wellbutrin for several years (sweating, sensitive to smells, impatient) that I never knew were side effects of Wellbutrin.
(I gained 6 lbs my first month off of Wellbutrin, which was a surprise, I didn't think stopping an anti-depressant would cause weight gain)
So I am interested to hear what happens AFTER you discontinue Contrave.
Does the weight stay off, or do you have weight gain? How do you feel after
you stop using Contrave?
Or is this a medication that you have to plan to take 'for life' as a maintenance medication?
Contrave - What happens once you stop the Rx? How long do you take this Rx?

I took this for 1 year. I lost 14 pounds. I weaned myself off 2 months ago because I had an infection from dental surgery and the docs wouldn’t prescribe any pain meds due to the contrave so I suffered in pain for 5 days until antibiotics kicked in. I’ve gained all 14 pounds back. Never again. At $99 a month for 12 months... what a waste. I’ve joined a gym and simply quit consuming sugar. It’s cheaper than the diet pills lol and it feels good to feel good again.
What happens after you stop this medication? I think that depends on the plan you and your physician have. My original physician and I had determined that I would continue to take the medication, but possible at a lower dosage. She retired and now I have a new doctor. The new doctor won't prescribe the medication. So, personally, I am still working out what I am going to do. When I am off the contrave (I took a month off to see what would happen) the cravings came back. So, I may have to change doctors to stay on the medication. There are no contraindications about staying on this medication. Many folks are on the individual medications long term.
