I have been on Contrave for 4.5 weeks and up to 2 pulls twice a day and haven't seen any results. I've been eating less and doing cardio as well as working out. Is this normal or does the weight loss come after a certain time frame - I have little side effects so I'm not sure what is going on - does anyone know when the weight loss starts and do you take the pills with food?
Thanks
Taking Contrave. When does the weight loss begin?

I've been on Contrave for less than a week and I am noticing that I am not hungry
I am on day 22 of the contrave. From day 1 I had a major appetite reduction, but also a lot of side effects. I have waves of exhaustion and the shakiness. I do take the pills with food and sometimes just a stomach ache. I've had some dry mouth and drink water constantly. Mentally, I feel strange.
This pill has hit me hard. It does seem to be working because I usually eat a lot at night. I am trying to keep my carbs low and exercise a lot more. I have no interest at all in food whereas before I was pretty obsessed by it. I think I have lost about ten pounds or so.
I would give it a little more time and then maybe switch to something else if you are getting no results.
Hello
Is there any chance you could be taking another medication that is nullifying the Contrave?
If not stick with it. Sounds like you're doing everything right.
One day you will see all your work pay off when you step on the scale.
Lastly, we as woman can hold a lot of fluids when it's that time of month.
Keep up the good work!

It is very individual. If you read the literature with the medication, it can take up to 12 weeks on the medication at the full dose to feel the effects. Contrave is not an appetite depressant. Sometimes people will have a decreased appetite, but not always. Contrave helps with cravings and obsession with food. Do you have those issues? Are they getting better? Make sure you measure and track everything you eat. It is good to exercise and make sure you get drinking enough water. Hope this helps!
It has helped with my craving I believe- I drink water all day - that's all I drink - and also keep a food - I dont remember reading about the 12 weeks and will have to read again - thank you for that info.
Hopin32, it absolutely is an appetite suppressant. It turns off that trigger I'm your mind that tells you you're hungry. How is that not an appetite suppressant???
From drugs.com: "Response to therapy should be evaluated after 12 weeks at the maintenance dosage. If a patient has not lost at least 5% of baseline body weight, discontinue Contrave, as it is unlikely that the patient will achieve and sustain clinically meaningful weight loss with continued treatment." That is the only 12 weeks mentioned in the FDA document and means evaluation after 16 weeks of taking Contrave.
It's going to be different for everyone. Have you noticed a decrease in your appetite? If you haven't by now, Contrave is likely not going to work for you.
Some people have great results while others get nothing out of it.
I've notice a little decrease in my appetite- thank you
I had my first follow-up with my doctor since starting Contrave and I lost 8 pounds!! Not only was I excited but my doctor and her nurse were very excited too. I am now taking 4 pills per day and I have my next monthly follow-up appt next month. Are you watching your calories intake? I am writing everything down that I eat and I mean EVERYTHING!! Be honest!! Contrave has helped me with portion control which I feel was my main problem. Just balance your food intake and decrease your calories intake and I am sure you will begin to see some changes. I will report back next month. Good luck to you!
