I took Lexapro 10mg for 2 days and had to stop it because I was having suicidal thoughts, not eating or drinking, horrible dreams, very tense, everything I thought about gave me a panic attack. I was only taking it to prevent panic attacks. I have never been depressed. I stopped the Lexapro 9 days ago and I am feeling better everyday but I am still anxious, my head is really cloudy and I am having horrible dreams that give me anxiety. I also find myself clenching my jaw, which I have never done. I find myself happy one minute and a little down the next, that has never happened to me either. I didn't eat or sleep for 5 days. I wish I could just feel normal again. Even with the low dosage and length of time I did take the Lexapro I keep hearing it could still take 2-4 weeks. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I was way better off with panic attacks every once in a while. Please help!!
How long does it take for Lexapro to be totally out of your system and feel normal again?

Wow I hv never heard of Lexapro is it anti anxiety of for antidepressants? I just started Zoloft yesterday so I hv no clue how it will work cause it takes wks but I also take alprazolam which helps alot!! Try that!!!
Yes, Lexapro is like Zoloft. I can not take xanax because it makes me depressed the following day. I am extremely sensitive to medication. My mom takes Zoloft and she loves it, good luck!!
Thank you and I hope things get better for u too!!!
Hi,Sam!! Lexapro DOES have a long half life of about 30hrs which means after taking a 10mg dose only 5 mg would remain in your body; after 60 hrs only 2.5mg, etc. But because it has such a long half life it also takes a very long time to reach steady state therapeutic levels that might cause a withdrawal syndrome when stopped.
Have you talked to your doctor and explained exactly what's going on with you? It sounds pretty extreme for such a small dose.
Best wishes and let us know how you fare if you would. Best wishes, WCV
Thank you for responding. I have spoke to my doctor and she said it can take a couple weeks. Everyday is getting better but it is just so scary that I am still feeling these effects. I wonder is because I didn't eat or sleep for days if that has anything to do with it taking so long to get out of my system.
Well, at least you spoke to your doctor and know it's *normal*. Hang in there. It WILL get better and I'm sorry you had this tough experience. It's too bad because I LOVED how my Lexapro worked for me when I was taking it. WCV
Sometime I don't know if the doctors know what they are talking about lol. She told me that Lexapro had the least amount of side effects. I am just hoping someone that has been in the same boat as me has gotten through it!
It does have very few undesirable effects in MOST people. It's a percentages game. If you're in the <0.5 ~ 3% who react badly the drug looks darn bad. It's a numbers game. I guess I was in the top 97% ~ lucky me.
And remember that aspirin and tylenol can be deadly to some people. :-(
Very true!
Hello Again! I am suffering from anxiety again, I am finding that it is a week after I end my period every month for about 5 days. I am just anxious because I am so scared of my thoughts. Every minute that I have to think, I think I am dying of cancer, heart attack, or something. I can't shake these thoughts. My mom and a few of my friends take Zoloft and love it, I am thinking of trying it but I am so scared of having the same effects as I did with the Lexapro. Is there a chance I might be okay with the Zoloft or do I have a higher chance of having the same effects? Please help!
Samjo, i was wondering if you did switch successfully to anything else? I have been having the exact same problems as you with Lexapro, and I only took that sh*t for two days. I'm still waiting for these stupid side effects subside, but finding this thread has made me feel SO MUCH BETTER.
I am so worried that this feeling is going to last! I took one 10mg Lexapro and had very bad side effects-insomnia, agitation, worry, feeling tired, not wanting to do anything, loss of appetitive, lost and depressed.
Today is day three and I a feeling better, but my bad thoughts and worry are still strong and its making me very anxious. I also don't have an appetite.
Did anybody take anything to suppress the feeling? Will it go away really soon. I have a life and I feel like I cant function.
I am scared!
I've been on Lexapro for a few years. I had a terrible time getting started on it: Jaw-clenching, muscle tightness, "brain zaps", extreme fatigue yet a parqadoxical inability to sleep. The doctor said he'd never heard of this sort of thing, yet I've since read many accounts of people have experienced these symptoms. I think he thought I was being overdramatic. (That's not me.)
Nevertheless, I was determined to tackle my issues, so I started out slowly on the Lex. instead of giving up.
I cut the pills down and started out with 2.5 mg for a few days, then up to 5 mg for a couple weeks, then up to 10. Plus, I took them in the morning (counter to the doctor's suggestion to take them at night) because then my sleep would less affected. My symptoms were minimized, and after a couple weeks at 10 mg I felt great.
I think it's really stupid that ramping up slowly on these things is not standard practice. It is recommended to taper off slowly when quitting, so why not "taper on"?
Hi wildcat how long before the side effects stop.i took a twenty mg..half hour later I've been sick as a dog its been five days still nausea and tremors in my legs..please help
