How long after you quit Zyprexa does withdrawal start?

I'm schizophrenic and have tried many different antipsychotics. Zyprexa actually works really well at managing my symptoms with very few side effects. I've gained 50 pounds since starting this med. 3 months ago I started a diet and exercise program to try and lose this extra weight. Didn't lose a single pound. I exercise 1 hour or more a day and have been on as few as 600 calories a day with no results. I know its this drug. I'm quitting it as I don't want to develope worse obesity or obesity related diseases. I'll have to find another way to manage my mental health issues.

I wouldn't stop this med without first conversing with the doctor. You don't want your symptoms to return which will most likely happen. Sometimes we have to suffer the side effects to keep our illness under control. If you are watching your diet and exercising even without weight loss, you are doing all you can to avoid complications like hypertension or high blood sugar. I wouldn't stop without further advisement from the prescribing doctor.

Thanks LauriShay for your advice. I've been reading posts about Zyprexa withdrawal on this site. It looks like it can be very scary. I may have made this decision before I thought about the effects. I will talk to my pshrink to find out about alternatives before I just jump off this med. Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions.
