My 20 year old son is schitzoeffective with hallucinations, delusions, anxiety. He has been on so many medications with no results. He was recently put on 30 mg Zyprexa. I was hoping someone could tell me how long until he will notice positive results with this medication.
Olanzapine - how long did it take to see results with Zyprexa?

Hello, for me the injectable Zyprexa was the effective therapy that really helped - it took a few hours, maybe a day. Thanks to the medication, I was able to distance myself from my hallucinations, and treat them as that.
When "people" tell you to do things, your mental reasoning performs a cost/benefit analysis: is this sound/reasonable/good for me? However, when "your voices" tell you to do things, you feel compelled to obey without questioning - because they feel supernatural. Taking injectable Zyprexa allowed me to restore the critical thinking component so as to think "Voices and people are the same, I should only do what is good for me, that means stop harming myself". Life is short, and we should not let voices get in the way of all the good we are here to accomplish.
The pills were able to sustain the effect of the injections once I was no longer able to get my biweekly/monthly injection - but intuitively I would say the pills do not work nearly as well. But that is just my intuition there. What I mean is, if the pills don't work, the injection might still work wonders, and it may be worth the try for your son.
My family was incredibly supportive and I put them through hell. I really hope your son can find the molecule/treatment that works for him! Warm regards,
I felt significant benefits from Zyprexa at about two weeks with no side effects except some sleepiness the first few nights after I started it.
Best regards to you and your son,
As Stephen said , it does work rapidly. In my case Zyprexa has been a life savior, it has helped my condition and I have not experienced any side effects, remember we react to medications differently (side effects, benefits, risks, interactions, etc.)
I hope it works for your son.
Fairly quickly (up to a few weeks) to see results but my experience was all badly negative (worsening psychosis). At least I know that sudden cessation is trouble free.
