My mother takes olanzapine, at first it worked really great and got her to a stable mental health after a few episodes. When trying to taper down the dose, she had suffered insomnia so we had to go back to her original dose. But since coming back, she had been very sad and confused, and most likely depressed. It’s been two weeks, will she be more stable with time ? Considering it worked perfectly at first before lowering dose ?

What dose was your mother on before lowering it and how low was the dose she took for a while?
I have been on olanzapine for 20 years it is a very good 2nd generation atypical antipsychotic, and after being on her normal dose for 2 weeks, by now she should be fine, but the mind is complex and hard to understand.
Have you spoken to her Dr., did he/she tell you to lower the dose?
From my experience when things are fine and my Dr. does not adjust my dose I simply stay on the dose that is working for me, I am not judging you at all, but it may take more time for your mother to feel herself again with the medication, I have been on different doses, now I take 10 mg. but I have taken up to 30 mg., which was not helpful.
Talk to her Dr. and I wish for her to get well soon.
Hi,
She was at a low dose of 5MG for a period of 3 months, went straight to 2.5MG for 20 days before reinstating due to insomnia. Since reinstating, she’s been trying to maintain herself but I don’t see her doing well like she was at the beginning. Brain fog, confusion, sadness which I believe led to an episode of mild depression. The DR suggested to stay on the dose and try to stabilize for a month or so before taking anything other action. Do you think this is normal until she stabilizes ?
Thank you for kind words,
Best Regards, Muad
hopefully she'll stabilize at that low dose and will feel better.
All the best to you and your mother.
Best regards, masso
