Hey kardesh,
Unfortunately you are on the lowest dose possible of the Zyprexa. The recommended dose is 10 mg/day. You are probably going to have to accept this as a side effect of the Zyprexa. If it is unacceptable, discuss with the doctor switching to a less sedative medication for your condition.
Best wishes,
Laurie
Thanks for the reply Laurie. Does that mean that if I only sleep for 8 hours every night, over time I'll be sleep deprived?
No, if you only sleep 8 hours a night you won't become sleep deprived. While everyone requires different amounts of sleep, the average is 8 hours.
My wife is taking zyprexa 10 mg. She sleeps all night, and all day. She has uncontrollable twitching, unstable, very forgetful, staggering gait. She us like a zombie. She sleeps on average of 20 hours per day. And when she is awake she is delusional. She makes no sense at all. But she does not see this as problem. Although every else she's it. It is a bunch of scary effects. She is only taking 10 mg at bedtime for. Has Anyone else recognize these effects? Her Dr is apprehensive taking her off zyprexa, but her Dr does not see what is happening. She is just using it for depression. I have heard from our pharmacist that trazadone is a great alternative for zyprexa. Any suggestions? Help
The side effects you are describing really need to be addressed by the doctor. If she is only being treated for depression, there are many medications to choose from.
If you have been taking this short term so far, a week or so, it could be that your body needs to adjust to the medication. If you've been taking it longer than this it might be a good idea to reduce the mg and see how you go with that. Do you take any other meds at 'bedtime'?
I've been taking it for a long time. I think 2.5 mg is the lowest dose. No I don't take any other meds at bed time.
OK, i think you need to discuss with your dr whether you can lower the dose i.e. take half a tablet, or try a different medication. I take amitriptyline at night which really help me sleep and once i got used to them i have a normal sleeping pattern. Maybe something to think about?
Hi:
My mother is using Zypresa for some years now, our family dr noticed that she was having like "parkinson symptoms", her hands were trembling, and she was walking like a robot, he said it was the side effects from Zypresa. She is taking it every other day, and she is doing much better now.
