I have been taking drug tests for 4 years now and I have never failed for methamphetamine. I take Suboxone 12mg/day, Adderall 20mg 2xday, albuterol aerosol as needed, albuterol sulfate as needed, Advair 500mg 2xday. I also take mini thins (over the counter), Robitussin, 5hr energy. I dont understand how I came up positive now though. I have taken these for a while now and nothing has showed up before. I have done everything that CPS has court ordered me to do for my son to come home and he came home a month ago and the case was almost dismissed. This false positive has made my world crumble around me and I need to find out what happened to that test! Please someone help me!
I recently have failed a drug test for methamphetamines. What could have made a false positive?

this drug screen about a 95 % level of accuracy which actually means that approx. 5% of the positives are by definition false and 5% of the negative readings are false.
It's the adderall. I took it as well. Google it, its listed as a controlled substance
albuterol is the reason i think because the same thing happened to me
I know that Adderall shows up as amphetamine... are u sure it is not just amphetamine... I am not sure if in conjuction with some of the other stuff it may show up as methamphetamine... its a thought. Good luck!
ajasicki, Adderal is an amphetamine. it's used for OCD, ADD ADHD, etc... This is why you tested positive for amphetamines, because you are taking one. it 's a stimulant that actually has a calming effect if used correctly for the things I mentioned before. If you have a legal prescription for it, and I'm assuming you do, then just get a letter from your doctor explaining why he is prescribing it for you and you should be alright. it is a perfectly legal drug of choice for the above problems, works very well. I trust that you're saying that you have NOT used methamphetamines, but are coming up with a false positive ? I looked into my research (I work in the substance abuse field) - and I suspect that the "culprit" is the Robitussin.
Anywhere, here's a (long!) list of medications that are likely to result in a false positive for methamphetamine:
<< Over-the-counter cold and allergy remedies that contain ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, propylephedrine, phenylephrine or desoxyephedrine: Nyquil, Contactd, Sudafed, Allerest 12-Hour, A.R.M., Triaminic 12, Ornade, Tavist-D, Dimetapp, Sinex, Neosynephrine, Actifed, Bayer Selectd Maximum Strength Sinus Pain Relief Caplets, Contact Non-Drowsy Formula Sinus Caplets, Dristan Cold Caplets, Maximum Strength Sine-Aid Tablets, Maximum Strengeth Sudafed Sinus Caplets, Maximum Strength Tylenol Sinus Gelcaps, No Drowsiness Sinarest Tabs, Sinus Excedrin Extra Sterength Caplets, Characol Sinus, Drixoral Cold and Flu, Efidac/24, Phenergan-D, Robitussin Cold and Flu. Over-the-counter diet aids containing phenylpropanolamine: Dexatrim, Accutrim. Over-the-counter nasal sprays: Vicks inhaler, Afrin. Asthma medication: Marax, Bronkaid tablets, Primatine Tablets. Prescription medication: Amfeprainone, Cathne, Etafediabe, Morazone, phendimetrazine, phenmetrazine, benzphetamine, fenfluramine, dexfenfluramine, dexdenflurarnine, Redux, mephentermine, Mesocarb, methoxyphenamine, phentermine, amineptine, Pholedrine, hydroymethamphetamine, Dexedrine, amifepramone, clobenzorex, fenproyorex, mefenorex, fenelylline, Didrex, dextroamphetamine, methphenidate, Ritalin, pemoline, Cylert, selegiline, Deprenyl, Eldepryl, Famprofazone >>
Hopefully, if you give this information to them, they'll allow you to schedule another test - and be sure that beforehand, you AVOID any medication that may cause the false results, especially the Robitussin. I pray all goes well for you and your son. Bravo for cooperating with CPS and doing everything you could to bring him home - that's wonderful.
The mini thins also can contain ephedrine
Thanks... It's hard to find out which cold medicines are ok...
