Not only can they be less effective after the expiration date, they can become contaminated with bacteria as the preservative can fail past the expiration point. Call your Dr for a new script.
Rajive is right the potency factor is one thing to consider and it may not be the same exact problem as this was previously used for, as far as harmful I can't tell you that but another way of checking is to call the pharmacy where it was filled this way you are hearing not only from me but from the pharmacist as well. I just want you to be safe and in using this if it's outdated then effectiveness is a concern.
Usually meds are not supposed to be used after the expiry date as they loose efficacy.
