I was just given tramadol by my doctor for some pain. Has anyone taken this and if so did you find it gave you the same relief as Percocet or Vicodin? I was also confused as to why I wasn't given one of those instead of the tramadol, which I have never heard of before. Thanks
How strong is tramadol 50mg for pain compared to Percocet or Vicodin?

it really matters what your pain is Tramadol is a opiate but their is little opiate pills called opana that have the strangth to kill a 250 pound man in moderit pain if you eat the hole little pill keep in mind all opiates are addictting
I was also just prescribed Tramadol 50 2-3x/day. I have 5 bulging discs in my neck and literally cannot stand the pain by the end of the day... level 10! Just had a steroid shot (3rd one in a few years) which did nothing for the pain. Now seeing the pain doc in a week and in meantime he gave me this scrip. Was on hydrocodone 5/500 1-2x/day (from family doc) which lightly "touched" the pain. I'm not sure what direction I'll be going in -- addiction/dependence is a huge issue and I certainly don't want to go down that road but I also cannot be in this kind of pain everyday. Wish I had some better answers and hopeful that someone out there has the same type of issues w/severe neck pain and effective pain relief to live a decent life!
I broke my neck a while back (my 2nd surgery on my neck was about a month ago) and have been taking norcos 10/325 but I've taken that so long, it stopped working really. Today, he prescribed me tramadol 50, just took 3 about an hour ago. Not really any effects yet.
I have been on Tramadol 50 mg for severe Neuropathy pain in my legs and feet for approximately 8 years and it really controls the pain. My physician has told me that this medicine is very safe and that it is used for widespread causes of pain
I had tormenting back pain that was made bearable with Percocet. But I ran out of my month's supply of it early, and I learned the hard way that my doctor could not renew my subscription until a full month had passed since the last filling. He put me on Tramadol for the week that I had to wait before getting Percocet again. It was completely worthless, and for that entire week, I seriously considered buying heroin on the street corner. If I had had to wait more than a week with that pain, I think I might have offed myself. Does that answer the comparison question?
I was very addicted to vicodin which is a hell of a lot stronger than Tramadol. But I used Tram to get off Vicodin. Now I'm slowly detoxing off tramadol which have some withdrawel symptoms. I never got the loaded feeling from tram like I did Vic. I'm happy to now be in a 12 step program.
I recently took tramadol for the first time. Just one dose of two caplets, and I had nausea, stomach pain, vomitting, dizziness, tingling and itching. Despite all that, it did relieve my back and knee pain for hours, (pain which I rated as a 9), but I will not be taking a second dose, despite the pain relief, the side effects are too miserable. Never took percocet or vicodin, so I cannot compare.
is there any danger taking percocet an hour after taking tramadol?
not typically-if by small dose, but it would depend on your tolorance level.
i was recently prescribed tram 50's instead of a vic or perc, and did not think it would have the same pain killing ability. so i took 5 right away b/c i hadn't had a script filled in several weeks, and was in quite a lot of pain, stemming from psoriatic arthritis. well, that was WAY more than enough, to not only numb the pain, but i felt like i had just been given a potent pain killer like demerol or morphine. in other words, i found it to be quite effective, even in small doses. i can also see where it could become addictive to one whom was taking it for extended periods. be careful.
When I have taken only 3 at a time its made me feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin. Not the kind of feeling that demoral gave me years ago.
that makes no sence i took 4 50mg tramtoday n had other opiates n "na's"... so how were u sick unless u have no tolerance!!!
Tramadol is not a narcotic pain killer. It's an anti-inflammatory combined with pain medicine. I've found that alternating an anti-inflammatory (Tramadol works best in this case) with a narcotic pain killer that it allows my pain medicine to work better and longer. For my pain, anyhow.
Many doctors prefer to try and give medicine of this sort instead of opiate/narcotics (ie: vicodin, percadan, loratab, percocet and so on) to try and prevent substance addiction and abuse (however, tramadol can be very addicting as well so you must still be cautious and take the medicine as directed by your doctor and written on your prescription bottle).
I found that Tramadol is very effective for nerve pain, such as what I experience from postherpetic neuralgia from Shingles. I've taken Lyrica, Cymbalta, Neurontin, hydrocodone and lidocaine patches for this condition. While not as fast-acting as hydrocodone, I get longer relief from Tramadol. Tramadol, though, is not a good medicine for acute pain such as what you experience after surgery, gallbladder issues or pulling a muscle, etc. Research has shown Hydrocone superior to Tramadol in these circumstances. Relief from certain nerve pain does benefit from Tramadol use based solely on my experience.
VICODIN is NOT a WEAK drug it is a narcotic tramadol is not a narcotic and not addictive
I have seen alot of answers about this drug, but I feel that I should give a very strong warning that taking this drug can be very dangerous!! I was given 100 mg Tram to take every 6 hours, it did give a minor euphoria feeling for about 2 hours then absolutely no help at all. I was told to up the dosage by 50mg every 4 hours by my doctor, so I was taking 150mgs, which I did and I ended up have a gran mal seizure because of it! I was rushed to the emergency room and after hours of testing they stated it was definitely the Tram that caused the seizure. This drug is known to cause seizures, which I was not told. Please be very careful about the dosage, if it is not helping call your doctor and demand another type of pain medication instead of upping the dose.
Amen 2 ur response! Unfortunately, it took 3 (THREE) gran mal seizures 2 happen 2 me b4 any1 figured out that I didn't suffer from epilepsy. Ultram lowers our threshold 4 seizures, ESPECIALLY dangerous when taken in high doses. So, 4 any of u out there taking more & more 2 "reach euphoria"...
... I'm lucky 2 have survived the 1st (FIRST) seizure-I'm just sayin'!
B safe!

well,if you`r in real pain like lower back (in the disc itself) forget about tramadol or even Vicodin es 750 you need a stronger one like dilaudid 4mg twice a day and a Valium10 with it ,tramadol for me is like taking Tylenol .this is what i`m taking before my surgery and some times i take 2 pills of dilaudid 4mg.now after i take all these medication the nerve pain wont go away you just go to sleep.
I have taken both and Tramadol didn't really work for me. I take a low dose of Vicodin (250 - 500 mg) for moderate to severe pain and it works great. 50 mg of Tramadol not only didn't work that well it made me feel loopy and tired.
I think different people react different to different medications, but that is my experience.
well i take tramadol 3x day 100mg so 300mg a day middle of road for me kinda works kinda doesnt.i have 3 heriated discs in my neck.before this for the last 4 years ive taken perc 30s 4 aday and 75mcg fentynal patch they both worked way better but much more addicting.trams dont seem to b as bad.but well see the first time i run out early.hopefully that doesnt happen.
tramadol isnt a highly addictive narcotic as to vicoden or percocet, maybe your dr is trying to save you from going thru the addiction part, if he has been giving you vicodne for some time now and just quit, i dont think he suppose to , hes suppose to help you taper, either that or he knows your addicted and is trying to give you something else
