With the drug Percocet what does the numbers 5/325 vs. 10/325 mean? And which I is stronger?

Added 28 June 2013:

I have had 8 Back surgeries in the last year. The pain down my legs is incredible.and I guess to be expected. So after begging they changed me to precocet 10/325 from 5/325. I am assuming it's stronger since today is the first day in 3 weeks the pain was under control. :) Drug seeking, not at all just want my life back.

If you are taking it long term, its best to cut out the tylenol, it can damage your kidneys. Also the goal when treating chronic pain is to prevent pain, so a long acting medication is used, with a short acting one if you still have some pain breaking through. With acute pain, you take the med to get rid of the pain. Oxycontin with a short acting oxycodone would be better then taking percocet.

Thank you so much for the in put. I am also on a fetnal 25 mg patch. I was on that hydrocodone 10/325 and oxicodon 10 mg immediate release. For some reason my Dr changed it even after I told him Percocet did not work well for me. The people who do drug seek have caused a lot of problems for those who just need a day pain free. My own mental health demands it. My marriage of 24 years needs it ( my husband is a saint). I have apologized more this last year for being a b#&$h but you can only take so much. I have worried about withdrawals if this is ever over, since the beginning. I just want something to get my out of the pain. So since my doc. Changed it to 10/325. I have been so very much better. I even called the nurse to thank her for getting that for me. I hope it lasts. :)

Too much Tylenol is bad for your liver.

The 5 and the 10 refer to the mgs. of oxycodone and the 325 refers to the mgs. of Tylenol or acetemenaphine. So the 10/325 is stronger.

I hope you feel less pain. You can build up a tolerance to the Percocet which is short- acting, and would have to go to something stronger, or extended release like Oxycontin. But the 10/325 Percocets can work for the breakthrough pain.
