I was just given tramadol by my doctor for some pain. Has anyone taken this and if so did you find it gave you the same relief as Percocet or Vicodin? I was also confused as to why I wasn't given one of those instead of the tramadol, which I have never heard of before. Thanks
How strong is tramadol 50mg for pain compared to Percocet or Vicodin?

Yes it is just as good
Being I cannot take any arthritis meds due to being diagnosed with kidney problems, tramadol is what I've been taking for years. It has no side affects, goes straight to the nerve, not thru the kidneys, liver or any other organs. I've been prescribed vicaden after knee surgery, it caused dry mouth, I hated it. Tramadol is wonderful, takes the aching and pain away.
My doctor prescribed me 50mg Tramadol for my right shoulder psin and for me it works extremely well.
I take trama-dol for back pain and get more relief with an arthritis pain relief pill. Its not strong at all.Percocet and Vicodin would be much better, but the doctor wants me to use it along with the shots they give me.Sorry I couldn't be much help.
I was prescribed Tramadol 50ml, I took it for 2 days and I had to stop taking it because it was so strong and made me nauseous. It had the same affect on me as Denlatin, but I must say I must have a low tolerance to pain meds because all the other repliers seem to think its weak... I don't! Good luck and hope that your pain issue will subside and gets resolved.
tramadol did nothing for me I fell and fractured my T 12 vertebrae the doctor was a quack too didnt' even xray me sent me home with 50 mg of tramadol sat a week, went to the ER they xrayed me and held up the xray asking if this was new.
Tramadol hydrochloride (trademarked as Conzip, Ryzolt, Ultracet, Ultram in the USA, Ralivia, Zytram XL Durella{CR-100/200 mg} in Canada or Adolonta in Spain) is a centrally acting synthetic analgesic used to treat moderate to moderately severe pain. The drug has a wide range of applications, including treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, restless legs syndrome, motor neurone disease and fibromyalgia.[citation needed] It was launched and marketed as Tramal by the German pharmaceutical company Grünenthal GmbH in 1977.[1][2]
Tramadol is a weak μ-opioid receptor agonist and is a reuptake inhibitor of serotonin and of norepinephrine.[3][4] Tramadol is metabolized to O-desmethyltramadol, a significantly more potent μ-opioid agonist. Tramadol and its major metabolite(s) are distinguished from other more potent opioid agonists by relative selectivity for μ-opioid receptors.
I totally agree that doctors should help us get relief from pain immediately with the right drugs. If the pain is so severe that we are at the doctors office and possibly in tears that should be a clue we need strong relief. Tramadol does not come remotely close to the relief I can get from Vicodin or Percocet. There were an awful lot of extremely serious complications a person can get from Tramadol. Do I think it is worth it NO not when I could get total relief from pain with the Percocet or Vicodin.
I've taken it before with little effect. Took up to 200 mg before and still didn't help.
I have been on this for 5 years better then those narcotics work great little to no side effects.

Hi John! Sorry to say it but you sound a lot like me. I take a wide range of meds for a ruptured disc, even after having a fusion of those discs! My pain becomes unbearable sometimes so much that I burst into tears. I have been diagnosed as being depressed also. If you felt like I do, who wouldn't be depressed??? I will keep you in my prayers however.
I was on vicodin, but was switched to tramadol due to high liver readings. That could be another reason why your a doctor will put you on it. It does not relieve all of my pain but it makes it so I can at least function. I have deteriorated SI joints and psoriatric arthritis. My dr has me pair the tramadol with advil. I also take other medicines like celebrex and cymbalta so the combination of all of them at least gets me through the day.
Tramadol gives me excellent pain relief, PROVIDED I take it with 1000mg acetaminophen. I lived with (unbeknownst to me until 3 mos. ago) 4 ruptured discs for years, thinking my pain was due to the MS I have. I had back surgery Jan. 8th, was on Lortabs for 4 days, then switched to tramadol/acetaminophen on day 5. (I was desperate not to become an opiate addict, which is why I didn't finish the Lortabs, and switched to the safer tramadol.) I have never been on more than one 50mg tramadol 3x/day, and although I had some breakthrough pain, it was manageable. (I also used OTC pain-relief patches, Salonpas, which are WONDERFUL!) Now, 6 weeks post-surgery, I only take tramadol once in a while, and, after having been on tramadol for a year, I can say that I never became addicted. Everyone is different, but I have an addictive personality, and tramadol never caused a problem for me.
You have to be real careful with Tramadol, regardless of the doage because
they can have major, bad interactions if you are on anti-depressants. Just
a warning 'cuz it happened to me...
I have read that tramadol, or its metabolite... bonds very weakly to narcotic receptors, compared to opiates
I have read it has pain relief properties because it affects the reuptake of serontonin and nor epinephrine It is structurally similar to the SSNR inhibiter Effexor and yes many antidepressants reduce pain so if you are taking a high dose of the antideppresant pay attention to Dumpster divers post
tramodol is a joke compared to hydrocodone or oxycodone... its non narcotic but does help when in a pinch, ive taken lortabs for pain for years..
