When other methods are unsuccessful. Other methods have been tried - corticosteroid injections and now they will attempt a nerve block. I just sent a message to my doctor to get the details regarding this. My insurance (MediCare/MediCal) limits things like acupuncture for pain management so I am concerned because my current pain management physician as well as my primary care physician do not want me to continue on morphine (60mg every 12 hours) and oxycodone (10mg twice per day) but, if the other methods are not successful I think I should be able to continue on these pain meds which do work. A friend of mine who is a pharmacist and also suffers from RA and has had extensive experience in the pain management arena confirmed the above as an acceptable thing to do but I am feeling unsure as to how to find, ie. what questions or what to say when I call looking for a pain management physician who is open to prescribing opoids on a long term basis for a patient when everything else has been tried.
How do I find a pain management doctor who will prescribe opoids?

Hey Latulla - I added you as a friend, I was hoping to ask you a private question. If you don't mind adding me, that would be awesome. Thanks so much!
I too am in the same position in San Diego. I suffer from Sciatica and a Pinched nerve. I have tried so many different things to alleviate pain. Everything from traditional physical therapy to homeopathic remedies to pain meds. My doctor wants to "try" some new procedure but the risks seem to outweigh the potential benefits. Until I find a good solution I need to find a doctor to continue on with pain medications. I'm not sure how to message you but I'm hoping you can help me locate a doctor here in San Diego. Thank you.
I added you as a friend but I don't seem to be able to send you a message until you add me.
Latulla, I'm totally computer illiterate. LOL. I hope you see my messages because I could sure use your help.

Hello Latulla, I am also looking for a pm doctor who can help me. I had a L4-L5 fusion with hardware and unfortunately I'm not fused ... in pain EVERYDAY, ALL DAY.

I'm willing to pay whatever to get my rx. I was getting 30 mg oxycodone 4x a day. I quit on my own. The Dr was so on board with it and made me feel like he was about to cut me off. I had an epidural injection and since then my pain has increased 100%. When u called the Dr to tell him he said all I can do is give you a steroid pack. I'm dying. I'm in ventura though. Anyone know anyone in my area that can help me out?

I live in the San Diego area and have been taking Hydrocodone Acetamin 10-325Mg, for 16 years. My primary doctor quit, and they gave me another doctor that wouldn't give me my medications, I talked to 3 other doctor at the same place where I have insurance and they also won't help me. I'm in tears with pain, in my legs, knees, which is bone to bone, my feet and legs have vein disease, and arthritis in my toes. I can hardly walk now. I'm going to have to quit going to my grandchildrens birthday parties, its just too painful. Please help me find a doctor that will help me and give me my meds.

@Newman.. could you add me so that i could get that number from you. im just outside of L.a. and NEED PAIN RELIEF! thanks
Doctors are controlled by politicians who use medication and anything else they can think of for a platform for a vote. I had a near death car accident years ago. Some lunatic ran me into a cement phone pole going over 90 miles an hr. I now live with chronic back pain. I tried everything over the years. Injections actually made me worse. Surgery is not an option. Without medication I would end up in the ER locked in terrible pain. It is very important to control inflammation. And I hope every person who doesn't live with chronic pain and thinks they are judge and jury over us get their due karma. Every person should have say over their own body. And doctors should not be told how to do their jobs by politicians/gov.
@NewmanA, can you add me I have a question for you
I don't know how to find a pain doctor in your specific area except to maybe google Pain Management, & list your area. What I want to tell you is if you find a new doctor, don't go in & say I want this! They think you are first of all seeking just drugs. I understand that is what you are doing, but you have to go about it differently than that. Otherwise theyjust think you are a drug seeker is why it's getting hard to find a good pain doctor, plus the FDA is coming down hard on these clinics, & alot of them do not prescribe 4 to 6 hour pain relief drugs. I had this problem myself, & went to my primary doc in tears literally, & he got on the phone until he found one that prescribes oxycodone which is what I now take.
Make sure you take all records you have or get them concerning your condition, & explain that you have tried unsucessfully all the other methods, & the only thing that helped was the morphine 60mg, & the oxycodone for breakthru pain. I wish you the best & hope this bit of advice will help you...
Iam in the same boat my pm dr. Wanted to begin a procedure i wasnt clear about then after he did the begining of it now im in more pain then i was to begin with he only gives me loritab 7.5 which it takes me 2instead of one just to be able to move about without causing myself terrible pain now he wants to continue his procedure im scared if not he will refer me pack to my normal family doctor that truly doesnt believe in prescribing not even what he gives me ... im lost
Im in ga open to finding a pm dr. To pls let me have my medicine so that im not so miserable during the day in pain and sleepless at nite induring the full day mobility pain. The sadest part is i have a permanent condition that cant be fixed.
I'm moving to a new town after being able to get 200 15mg Oxycodone for years since a surgeon screwed up a hernia repair. I've tried all the alternatives, Lyrica, Neurotin, Zymbalta and nothing works but Oxycodone. Any idea how to switch to a new doctor in Coos Bay, Or. I have the complete support of my doctor where I live now but am worried about moving.
They are all scared because the FDA or DEA changed everything. !!!
I have chronic arthritis on both knees, and chronic arthritis in my lower back, I have a pinched nerve that runs all the way down from my knee to my butt, back aches all day and all night, can't even sit down normally, looking for a doctor that will prescribe me some kind of medication for my pain I live in Los Angeles downtown, and I need to see one as soon as possible, this is my telephone number when you could please help me. 3233049461 Jesse
Please tell your story to your Representatives. Or Jared Polis in Colorado. He is on this task force and seems to be pushing the idea Opioids=bad in an effort to fully legalize Marijuana.
When you know what has worked in the past you shouldn't be treated like a child or quasi-criminal and be subjected to a procedure you do not want. This is a type of extortion on the part of the clinic. They are money making schemes and probably not much more complicated than that.
Hi Singer!
I'm new to this wonderful site and also fairly new to the Pain Management System. I don't know how much help I can be to you but I know I have met some wonderful helpful people on here that I'm sure will respond to your question as well.
It sounds like you know what has worked best for you in the past. I can understand if your primary doctor does not want to handle your medications since it appears you will be on them long term. However, it seems strange that your pain management doctor does not want you to continue on your current medications.
If I was you I would set an appointment with your PM doctor to discuss what he/she feels is your next step for pain control. Maybe he would be willing to switch your medications not necessarily discontinue them. I would just be open and honest with him on how you feel and your level of pain. If he is unwilling to assist you or you are not comfortable with his plan then I would start the search for a new PM doctor which is not something I have any experience with because I've been with the same doctor.
I would first start with a referral from your regular doctor and if that don't work you must start shopping around which I think that is what your question is? Get copies of all of your medicals records (MRI's, CT scans, injections, xrays, doctors notes etc... ) I learned to keep copies of everything and I put them in sheet protectors and keep it all in a large binder that way I have it if needed in the future.
Make a list of questions for the doctor and have all your copies of your records (take extras so they can keep them). At the meeting explain your situation and what you have been through so far and go from there until you find a doctor who you are comfortable with. Which is not an easy tast. I love my doctor but still have the hassle of being judged by the other staff especially the nurse!!!
I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!
I envy the fact that you have only experience resonable adults as Doctors. In the past year or so I have had a doctor sadistically reduce me to tears, just because he could, a pharmacist yell at me.
I think many doctors are behaving like scared little children and taking it out on their patients.
I want to point out the irony that I live in a state where Marijuana is legal, but helpful pain medications and any other "controlled substance" is being demonized or rather the already suffering patients are.
I live in Michigan, too, and my previous pain management doctor accused me of all kinds of manipulation, when I changed my appointment to babysit my granddaughter. It was disgusting, he acted like he had some rage issues, pounding his chest, etc., and now he won’t fax my complete records to another doctor, and it’s been 2 1/2 months! Apparently other people have witnessed the same thing including a nurse who was accompanying her patient! I’m going crazy with pain from a congenital problem, RA, fibromyalgia, Sjogren’s, low-grade cancer, ankolysing spondylitis, stenosis, etc. I don’t know what to do! I’m a grouch to everyone because I feel terrible! I can’t even go grocery shopping, and pray every night that I can sleep (of course I also have centralized sleep apnea and severe narcolepsy, for which he got all in a tizzy about, even though it’s not a stimulant, and I was on it for over a year before he even saw I had it!
Where can I go? I’d be willing to go to Ann Arbor or anywhere, just for relief!!
I know this is late. It's 2018. Things are even harder now. Kalamazoo and grand rapids have pain Dr. I live by southbend so I go there but now all Dr in the area are stopping pain meds period and sending everyone to pain clinics. Hope your doing well
