When other methods are unsuccessful. Other methods have been tried - corticosteroid injections and now they will attempt a nerve block. I just sent a message to my doctor to get the details regarding this. My insurance (MediCare/MediCal) limits things like acupuncture for pain management so I am concerned because my current pain management physician as well as my primary care physician do not want me to continue on morphine (60mg every 12 hours) and oxycodone (10mg twice per day) but, if the other methods are not successful I think I should be able to continue on these pain meds which do work. A friend of mine who is a pharmacist and also suffers from RA and has had extensive experience in the pain management arena confirmed the above as an acceptable thing to do but I am feeling unsure as to how to find, ie. what questions or what to say when I call looking for a pain management physician who is open to prescribing opoids on a long term basis for a patient when everything else has been tried.
How do I find a pain management doctor who will prescribe opoids?

Do y’all take the time to read out this comments word for word and try grasping the message in them? Probably not!!! Well start all over and make the new responses appear first already.. Good luck!
Oh well not always easy with the right restrictions we have nowadays and all. However there are always lots of options for the sanest of minds to interpret what they see and make the best of it. I have a NAME and the name is HOW!!!
I’m in a similar bind and suffer from migraines (30 years plus), they run in my family. I’ve been taking Norco which seems to be the only thing that helps and allows me to function and live a normal life. I recently switched insurance and therefore had to switch doctors and now my new pcp just wants me to only try Botox or Occipital Nerve Blockers. Can you by any chance help?
I’m sorry, I know that this is old and I was. A little confused??? Do you know any that are actually helpful

I've had migraines with auras for as long as I can remember. Finally a doctor prescribed AMERGE (Naratriptan) 2.5 mg every 6 hours as needed, however, it has been rare for me to ever have to take more than 1 AMERGE (Naratriptan) 2.5 mg tablet after the first one.
This is one of the older drugs and doctors will fight with you to prescribe some of the newer drugs, however, you have to be persistent in asking for AMERGE (Naratriptan) 2.5 mg tablets 18 tablets a month.
I was originally given Imitrex and the very first time I took it I was at home sitting one the couch (it was a good thing I was). Within 20 minutes my head started to get this severe tingling and both of my arms went completely numb. I tried to push myself up off of the couch and my arms just collapsed under me.
I finally managed to get to the phone and call my doctor who I had on speed dial. She immediately told me NOT TO EVER TAKE Imitrex AGAIN & called in the prescription for the AMERGE (Naratriptan) 2.5 tablets. 18 tablets a month
AMERGE (Naratriptan) 2.5 mg tablets, HAS BEEN A LIFE SAVER for me. Some years later another doctor added Topiramate, 50 mg tablet in the a.m. & 100 mg tablet in the p.m.
The TOPIRAMATE keeps the migraines from even getting started.
Now when I feel a migraine coming on and you know the feeling, I IMMEDIATELY take my AMERAGE (Naratriptan) 2.5 tablet and within and hour or less it has gone from I'm getting a migraine to I was going to get a migraine.
My migraines were so bad before any of these drugs all I could do was go in the bedroom, lie flat on my back with the blinds drawn, a pillow over my eyes, take 4 Advil and pray for complete silence so I could fall asleep. I always had a small plastic lined trash can beside my bed because I was so nausea and couldn"t make it to the bathroom.
I used to have my migraines at least 60% of the month and they were debilitating.
Now I rarely have any migraines. I've also learned that to much caffeine, even 1/4 glass of red wine sets them off because of the sulfate in the wine, red licorice, smoke, change in weather, stress, to loud of noise, Sulfates, anything with MSG in it, peanuts, walnuts, lack of sleep and not drinking enough water. Oh, and the monitor of my computer being either to high or to low.0
Try the AMERGE ( NARATRIPTAN) 2.5 tablets and the Topiramate. Don't let your doctor have you try the botox shots and all the other "new drugs" that are being used.
Newer isn't always better.
Be polite but firm with your doctor and ask for the AMERAGE (Naratriptan) 2.5 tablets and the TOPIRAMATE 50 mg tablets. 1 tablet in the am and 2 tablets in the p.m.
My best to you.
Judy

Please Help, Since everything changed my pain management docs have asked me to get off benzos. While I have gone from 1 mg 3xs a day to at the lowest .5 mg. 2x a day that's not good enough so I got down to .5mg once a day then after a month and 1/2 stopped taking them after a few days I started tripping than falling down every few steps than the next day I went into full-on DTs had to go by EMT to hospital where I put into an adult crib until I could see a doctor who was so shocked at everything I had been going through. So now I am back up to Clonazepam 0.5 mg 3 times a day. So now I am being taking off pain pills against my will and my life will either be in bed or a wheelchair. I am at my breaking point what do I do??? I have lived that way about 4 years ago and that's not living. If you know of anyone in the Durham N.C. or areas within 20 to 40-mile radius of a doctor that would help please texted me back.
( Please don't tell me to go to Duke they have a waiting list for all different hoops they want me to jump through and most doctors in the same practice have a waiting list that goes until 2019 ) as if things couldn't get any worse this is just out there. Thanks please anyone knowing anything to help texted back.

I have fibromyalgia, lupus and Grave' s disease.
My frustration is that I was prescribed tramadol which does NOT work like Percocet or Vicodin. I'm in pain always. The pain wakes me up out of a sound sleep!!! Nothing else's makes the pain manageable except for opioid.
I live in NEWINGTON, CT and I need a good Dr. who would prescribe what I need for a good quality of life!! I'm 59 in 22 days and old enough to know what works and what doesn't. So, I cannot enjoy my GRANDCHILDREN because I'm in too much pain. I want to be more active! My quality of life SUCKS.
PLEASE HELP US WHO ARE IN REAL PAIN! Jill
It’s not an easy fix considering the fact that many are scared to loose their rights to practice should anything go wrong..
I'm looking for a doctor in the Madison, WI area who will prescribe Hydrocodone/acetaminophen (Vicodin, Norco) for chronic back pain.
I live in New Orleans and have the same problem here in la. I've been to family Drs and pain management Drs I've went to them crying begging and pleading with records in hand but to me nothing helps it's really just a hit or miss when it comes to finding a good Dr. I've had 8 back surgeries and 2 neck surgeries and I can't find a Dr that gives OxyContin here in New Orleans all they give me here is Norco 10 twice a day or three times a day if someone knows here in New Orleans please let me know
Hi Ronald, I know how you feel. I live in the N.O. area too and have tried quite a few doc's at the risk of being labeled a drug seeker. You are damned if you do or don't. Your tears mean nothing to them but a paycheck does. In fact, I think most people believe we are faking since the bad give the genuine a bad rap. Hell, I would even settle for 10 mg Norco's. Medical marijuana in many states are prescribed like candy. But don't mention the "O" word. It's a cardinal sin to even say it among doctors and the community. Nerve blocks give me minimal relief if any at all since they require an accurate injection point and if they do give me relief, it doesn't last for long. I once had a rheumatologist who did it right and used ultra sound during knee injections before I finally had to have TKR surgery. I know it's been quite a while since you posted but if you happen upon this reply and did find a doctor, would you please share him with me? Or even if you just want to share is OK too. I would appreciate it.
In the pain management area I have taken 30 mg 150 a month for over 3 years. Then I moved. The doctors won’t prescribe me that amount. Without sending me to a pain management doctor. They do not want to prescribe me that telling telling me about the gov won’t allow. Who can I go to?
Dude u should have kept the Dr u had n flew out every month to ur appointment. Even if u had to sell 30 of them to cover the trip that's still 120 clear. Just get a referral to a pain Dr.
Here in MA even the pain management doctors won't help new patients continue receiving pain medication they've taken without abuse or incident for years. The PCP doctor I've had for more than 12 years and who has been prescribing migraine medication through-out that time and 10 mg. of oxycodone 4x per day for the last 6 years due to multiple newer injuries, cancers, trauma's, just had a heart attack despite his young age and seemingly fit life-style and closed his practice with only 30 days notice to his patients. I had no idea this "opioid crisis" would ever affect me because I'm not an abuser, not even a drinker but have discovered that here in MA, politicians have taken control of doctors and instilled threats and fear so deep that there is no longer ethical treatment available to patients with legitimate, documented chronic pain.
They just want to push anti-depressants on me not understanding I am only newly depressed because the only thing that helps quell my pain slightly is no longer available to me. I am close to throwing in the towel as I dread even getting into bed at night because there is no position I can find that doesn't bring tears to my eyes.
I wish I could help you the only thing I know to tell you is Google pain doctors. My own doctor is retiring and I'm having trouble finding another doctor to take care of me.
@BluesInSanDiego please email me michael.f.lutzatgmaildotcom

I am in serious pain and it has impacted my life tremendously. I just meed to fimd the right doctor..

I live in Massachusetts -- the absolute best place to receive medical care. It additionally is the only state with a program called MA Health, the blueprint for free health care including prescription coverage for those without means. Despite that fact, it has become a police state with politicians completely ruling doctors every move. I am suffering from unbearable chronic pain stemming from a myriad of injuries, traumas and illnesses all beyond my control. For the last 12 years, I've had the same primary care doctor who continued various treatments I had started at Mass General Hospital--- the best in the world. Those were non-opioid therapies but none were successful. I have tried everything including multiple surgeries on multiple parts of my body for things like cancer and broken bones. I've suffered debilitating headaches since I was 8 years old when I began my period.
Through-out almost 40 years, I turned down pain medication except when hospitalized as I didn't want anything "altering my mind". I don't drink and never have--- just don't like the taste or affect, don't smoke or do drugs. No criminal record and although I used to get speeding citations 20+ years ago, no marks on my driving record. At MGH pain clinic almost 18 years ago, they prescribed tramadol and continued the Fioricet prescriptions for back, cancer and migraine pain which I took for almost 8 years. The problem was, I would start each day violently ill. My PCP started me on 5 mg. oxycodone after trying Percocet which had awful side affects and almost immediately, my nausea was gone. The tramadol was making me sick, on edge and brought on insomnia issues. I've done the anti-depressant route (as is mandated when you have chronic pain) to no avail. For the past 6 years, my doctor has had me on a dose of 10 mg. of oxycodone 4x per day plus 2-4 Fioricet for migraines which has enabled me to come to terms that there are no "cures" for the conditions that leave me in chronic pain. My doctor however, had a heart attack at only 60 y.o.. He is going to be okay but since he alone ran his practice, closed with only one month's notice. I received 2 prescriptions in the mail, 1 for oxycodone and 1 for Fioricet with a few referrals to other doctors. The doctor he said he was forwarding all my records to, claims not to have received them yet, going into the 3rd month and refuses to treat me or anyone taking the medication I do. I then went to another doctor, same thing. Neurologist for my headaches also refuse to write prescriptions and suggest I start over with all the treatments tried over the last 40 years which failed AND caused horrible side affects. I saw this doctor today and asked point blank as I did last week at a pain clinic that "does not prescribe narcotic pain medications" how a patient in chronic, debilitating pain that drives them to tears each night is supposed to cope with unbearable suffering and the answer both times was direct. It is against Ma state law to prescribe narcotic pain medications as pain management therapy unless the patient is terminally ill. I am at my wits end. I am not a medication abuser. I have never been asked to sign a pain contract but would willingly oblige if I could just find a doctor who will offer that option to me. Politicians should not be able to dictate to the medical community and that is what's happening here and across the country. Abusers and scammers have cost patients like myself with true chronic pain and the need for the relief and brief distraction our medications offer. There is no eliminating the pain but the medication holds it back a bit which enables me to get up and do what needs to be done, to take care of myself, my 90 year old parents, my dog. I need help because never in my life despite having had an uncommonly hard life riddled with abuse and injuries have I felt I don't want to live but honestly, the thought has entered my mind more than once these last couple of months because no one should be expected to endure this much pain when there are medications that help relieve it. As far as many of the "comments" I've read on this site--- they don't help people in my situation because many sound like they've been written by drug-seeking junkies who can't even take the time to read how poorly composed and disjointed their remarks are before posting them. It is no wonder doctors look at all of us who suffer with chronic pain like addicts but it is not right to lump us all in together. We are individual patients with individual problems and needs. It seems beyond unethical for doctors to yield to politicians when it comes to treating patients. As for me, it seems I'm doomed because I can't find a PCP or locate a pain clinic that will continue my established successful regime. Every doctor I've contacted only want me to go back and 'try again" options I've tried for decades before resorting to narcotic medications. I guarantee, I will not survive that long and at this point am losing the desire to anyway. If anyone has suggestions about how to solve this problem in MA please, throw me a life-line and let me know. Thanks
You should go to Franklin Pain Center in Franklin MA. They don't take all insurances, but you can try.
What do you do if there is not a cure for your pain and even the pain mngt. doctors cannot be found !
A couple of online sites that allow you to search by doctor specialty (pain management) and state you live in are: vitals.com and healthgrades.com. Both sites also have patient reviews. Good luck.
