I have to use a generic form of Prozac after using the original Prozac for years. Eli Lilly stopped producing it.
Is there anybody who has used both can tell me if the generic is as good as the original. I read some comments in several websites that generic is not similar, one from a doctor.

"A generic drug is the same as the brand-name drug in active ingredient, conditions of use, dosage form, strength, route of administration, and (with certain permissible differences) labeling. However, a generic drug may have certain minor differences from the brand-name product, such as different inactive ingredients."

As Wildcat points out, inactive ingredients can vary.

Prozac is the only antidepressant that I haven’t been on but of all my current medications 5 are generics and I’ve taken them for years. Different manufacturers may use different fillers…binders, stabilizing agents, colouring, etc…from the brand name and potentially this could cause problems with the absorption of the drug for a few people. There’s no guarantees but I think it’s worth trying.
