I do not like the way Lyrica makes me feel in the morning! My feet look a bit puffy as well. (I was in 5 inch heels yesterday for about 8 hours, so maybe that is why?)
This is the fifth day on Lyrica, and I just feel like I'm stoned!!!
Will this side effect wear off eventually??
Thank you in advance for any advice.

OMG!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one having issues. I just was put on it yesterday, so I took it last night.
I felt so anxious and nervous, as if I was about to have a panic attack. I also felt really drunk - like need to put your foot on the floor while you sleep so you don't throw up drunk.
I woke up with a terrible migraine (I suffer from chronic migraines), so I gave myself an injection of imitrex.
Within the last 30 minutes I've started having issues. Like, difficulty walking in a straight line. I feel like I've had a pitcher of margaritas. To make matters worse, I'm at work.
What the heck is going on!!! Will this pass soon? Do I need to be worried? Do I need to try to go home?
I'm a little scared tbh. I'm already on thin ice with my manager thanks to my 14 different migraine medications making her think I'm on illegal drugs (long story)...
I'm not on anything other than my prescribed medication, for the record. It's required for me to function.
What do I do?!
Also, I'm only on 50 mg, so it's not even that strong of a dose.
Try taking it in the evening or just before bedtime. My husband recently started using it and he looks like he's smoked! I can't imagine how hard it must be to work in that condition. Try the bedtime thing and it will, at the very least, lessen the "drunken" effect of the Lyrica. Hope that works for you.
Yes lyrica makes me so high and takes all my pain away
Most definitely. I love the way it makes me feel sort of trippy and extasea mixed together
Lyrica gives me a sort of tripping effect mixed with X never tried x but I've heard about it. I can feel the music when on lyrica. ausome drug
My first experience on Lyrica. I took about 500-600mg at about 1pm. 1 hour later I felt like I was 40% drunk 50% of GHB and 10% XTC. After about a total of 3-4 hours I took a shower and ate a meal. After a total of 4 hours after dropping I felt like a million bucks. I was surprised because it did a total 180 degree turn on me, I was a little wired. Talkative, social, my body felt great and at times had "waves" of an XTC type warm feeling. I was up all night though I didn't fall asleep till almost 5am. This stuff lasts a long time! I got out of bed the next morning feeling great and ready to go. No grogginess, hangover or bad feelings. This drug for me made me happy as well which I forgot to mention before. I would definitely do it again.
I've only been taking it a week and a half & I definitely feel stoned, have been much more talkative than normal. I had been taking Gabapentin for 4 years but had to stop because it slowed down my digestive system drastically & I was in a lot of pain because of that. When I first took Gabapentin I felt very dizzy but eventually it went away. Someone made a comment about drinking while taking Lyrica - I believe that's a no no.
I just took my first dose this morning and 5 hours later I still feel stoned/drunk weird. My dr gave nme lyrica and tramadol for back pain & sciatica... pardon any spelling having hardd time concentrating.
will these side effects wear off if not i cant function like this.
to Anonymous ... i'd not wear 5" heels if your feeling "high" your chances of falling are very likely.
hi I was on Lyrica for nerve pain. and I had bad reactions to it... Severe swelling of my feet all the way up to my knees and no I did not wear heels quite awhile after.I stopped the medication.
I gained 15 pounds in less than 3 weeks on Lyrica! And yes, felt very "high" and disoriented... I had to come off of it and go back on Tramadol for my fibro. It doesn't help so well, but neither did Lyrica. So I don't know what to try next... but something has to change:(
Well that does it, I'm off it as of today!!!
hey my friend, there's no guarantee that YOU will gain the weight. Maybe give it a try at least. If it's working on the pain (which you really haven't given it enough time yet to see) then a few pounds may just be worth it! Even so, when your pain is under control, you're physically able to do some exercises to work it back off too. Just don't wear the high heels when you jog. Seriously, weigh the pros and cons first. No pun unintended there.
chris,
And I am the one with the outrageous sense of humor???
I wear stilletos when I jog!
Dear sweetlemon: I have tried Lyrica three separate times, and yes, I was STONED out of my head! I was on the lowest possible dose each time, but I just couldn't take it! Also, and this is something to be very careful about, I started gaining weight. At first, I thought it was just me, but when I went off of the Lyrica, I stopped gaining weight. I also, had to lose the weight. It did NOT fall off by itself. This happened both the second and third time that I tried the med. It was horrible. Much, much later, another doctor prescribed me Gabapentin (or Neurontin). It was my miracle drug!! At first they had me on a very low dose, but I was feeling so well, that they kept adding the dosage until I was at the maximum of 3600mg/day. I used to call it my miracle drug. I was so happy that something actually worked for me!! BUT, I started holding water weight. My ankles would swell so badly that I literally had the skin touch the ground by the end of the day.
All in all I gained 80lbs until I realized that it was the gabapentin. Boy, was I upset. I went off of it, but the pain came right back. It took me YEARS to lose some of the fluid weight, and I was finally recognizing my ankles again, when my new pain doctor asked me to try just one 300 mg. capsule, once a day at night before I went to bed. I had to agree that getting up in the morning was much easier on my body. It didn't take me two hours to unstiffen. But, again, my ankles are swelling. I have decided that a small dose is with some swelling, than waking up in the morning the way I was before, so I guess I just have to put up with it. It makes such a difference for me.
Good luck! I hope you find your answer!
Hi msfino,
I thank you for your response.
If I gain two pounds I shall cease taking Lyrica! What you went through sounds like a nightmare...
Best wishes,
sweetlemon
And BEST WISHES to you too.
I am so sorry sweetie, I just saw this question!! Of course I have to agree with Rajive and Maso. You can trust their advice and opinions 100%. The only thing I can add (since you have a shoe fetish) is stay away from the high heels until you feel less stoned. I will not go out on the town with you in that condition. Besides, you could end up rolling an ankle and then I'll have to take you to the hospital and I don't drive.
Seriously, the side effects will probably subside the longer you stay on the med. And if the results are good, it's worth the wait until you can adjust. Just give it some time. Take care of yourself my friend. Don't use any heavy machinery or drive until you know how this medicine effects your abilities.
Big hugs,
chris
chris,
So now I must give up my shoes??? Oh God!
I have horse manure that needs to be bulldozed, I can't do that either?
LOL

I have some s**t kickers you can borrow... and a shovel if that will help??
chris,
I shovel it barefooted... ewwwwwwwww
Hi sweetlemon, I've been taking Lyrica every day for about 4 months now, and when I first started it, I did feel a little tipsy. As I recall, that feeling lasted a week or two and then wore off. I also take Savella, Tizanidine, and Methadone, so who knows if that had anything to do with the way I was feeling. I believe that once you've been taking the Lyrica for awhile and have built up a certain level in your system, those feelings of dizziness will settle down. It would certainly be a good idea to share your experiences with your doctor in the meantime. Has the Lyrica been helping you at all? It does seem to help my fibro problems, so I'm planning on continuing it. Best of luck to you, keemo7
Hi keemo7,
Thank you for your response. Yes Lyrica is helping the fibro pain!!
But I look and feel like I smoked the evil ganga weed! Morning dose makes my pupils HUGE and I am quite spacey...
Two weeks of this? Dunno if I can take that.
Hope your pain is better!
sweetlemon
Hi again, How much Lyrica are you taking? I think you should call your doc tomorrow and see about maybe adjusting your dosage. Are the side effects impossible for you to tolerate? Have you tried other meds for your fibro? keemo7
Hi again keemo!
I am taking 50mgs 3 times a day. I took OxyContin for a long time, but turned into a zombie, so I went cold turkey off that stuff (not a pleasant experience!) so I can't take opiates of any kind.
It is odd, but the morning dose of Lyrica makes me feel stoned, the other doses do not do that... weird huh???
How are you feeling keemo?
Your friend,
sweetlemon
Lyrica seems to be notoriuos with those I know who take it for giving that slightly spacey and drowsy. However if the side effects aren't unbearable they generally go away in 10 to 15 days and then is really effective and seems to be a great option compared to the roxicodone 30s, and dilauded, morphine, oxycontin etc. Clearly speak with yor doctor but I've heard many similar stories and with all the side effects have faded and we are all happy to be off the hard narcotics. Hope this helps at all. Keep your chin up and youl get through this :)
Hello my friend,
My mother takes Lyrica 150mgs. and she is fine with it , and has not experienced any possible side effects.
Remember not all organisms react in the same way to the medications.
I am happy that it is working for you, do contact your doctor in order to adjust your dosage, you might be taking too much, and also discuss the side effects you are experiencing.
And Rajive is very right about the percentage of people that suffer from these sides effects of being drunk or stoned, I did check myself.
All the best and try to relax.
Take care,
Andres
Thank you for the info gentlemen.
Maso, I think I'm a little too relaxed. Bit wobbly in fact!

You are welcome sweetlemon.-
Welcome, Sweetlemon, be well & take care!
Rajive,
Good evening (?) or morning to you!
sweetlemon
Thanks Sweetlemonm, good night, its morning to me now - 0930am, Tuesday.
Pop a couple clonazepam. I'm completely joking don't ever go down the benzodiazepine Road.
I know this question was asked 10 years ago. But I just signed up. I've had Fibro for over 20 years. And have been on just about everything for it. I've not been able to take any of them. Included Lyrica. I just tapered off Lyrica because of side effects. I've been allergic to all the meds I've taken for Fibro
So it does affect different people in different ways.
Hi Sweetlemon,
Yes, 1 - 10% people on Lyrica do feel like they are drunk - 'stoned', I guess its a less serious side effect, maybe you could try talking to the doc who prescribed the med, to prescribe some thing which is more comfortable, take care, be well & safe.
yes I get real high on my lyrica,I am taking it for diabetic neuropathic pain... but it also helped a LOT for my anxiety and depression..what a wonderful drug it had been for me.I feel ten years younger with the stress reduction..great
Hi I'm 32 and my was just amputated above my knee and I take 1200mg + a day for the phantom pain, which is horrific! But it dose make my balance a little off especially when you drink. But other than that I say stay on Lyrica it is a great medication one of the best areas for this type of stuff I don't think I helped but I hope you feel better
1200 mg of gabapentin maybe, probably not lyrica. I hope you're healed and up & getting around
Hi Rajive Goel
I'm new here but i read what you said about the lyrics and I have been on it for a month if and I found that I only end up feeling stoned if I take it before I eat. Do you know why the food makes this happen? Because I was fine before I ate.
Do you also know why its causing a dry mouth?

This is actually for the member named above. I just read your comment where you mentioned the problem with phantom limb pain. Several months ago I read a really cool article about an unusual treatment for that very thing that I thought might be helpful to you.
One of the best parts is that it involves no medication, no surgery, and no long term treatment. It works by 'tricking' the brain, using nothing more than a box and a mirror.
The patient in the thing I read had his hand amputated. He felt as though his hand was still there but with the fist tightly clenched. Because he wasn't able to open that hand and stretch his fingers he felt excruciating pain, as well as frustration. This method "cured" him.
The doctors had him place the arm with the now amputated hand in one side of a box, and the other 'normal' hand in the other side of the same box. A mirror was fastened to the box in such a way so that he could only see the "good" hand, but it appeared to him in its mirror image so that it looked to the patient as though it was the arm from which the hand had been amputated.
They then had him repeatedly open and close the hand, stretching it each time he had it in the open position. I'm not sure how many times he had to do this or how long the entire process took, but the guy said he was completely free of pain and had no more problems with the site of the amputation since then.
Maybe if you look into it you can find something. Or ask your doctor if he or she knows about it or can find out, or ask around or whatever. All I know is that this guy swore by it. If I have a chance to look it up I'll send you the info. Hope this helps a little. Good luck to you.
