dont have the money or insurance to have it removed and im scared that it may cause infertility... i do want children one day. i was supposed to have it removed in january of 2014. i have noticed that i am moody and sex drive is horrible since i was supposed to have it removed but didnt think anything about it until reading the reviews and now i kind of worried. some reviews say that its fine to leave it in for another year and some reviews say that it may cause serious damage to the arm and the cervex. not sure whether to go to the hospital and have it removed or just leave it in until i get the money.
What are the effects if you dont remove implanon after 3 years?

I am so happy I came here. I have had my implant in only 6 months after the due date. I am really intuned with my body and I notice that I too have been getting headaches, dizziness, anxiety, sleepless nights, depression, and this month my period is late. I thought that I may have had diabetes or some other disease. I have also had right side ovary pain. This is no joke. I haven't gotten mine removed for lack of insurance and money. But I feel so terrible that I might have to go to emergency or something and just rack up a bill. Thanks to all who commented. I will keep you all posted as well!
I’ve had mine in now for a year past the due date where I should of gotten it out and I’ve had this lump in my lower stomach that moves sometimes I get very bad headaches anxiety mood swings depression and all kinds of other symptoms I haven’t gotten it removed because I really don’t have the time or the money but I want to get it removed as well but I’m scared now after reading all of you women’s comments I’m also worried that I may have infertility or something of some sort wrong with me I also heard it is possible to become pregnant but the chance it could be etopic pregnancy is very high where the baby is born outside of the womb an that’s very scary I’ve not gotten pregnant in the four years of me having it I’ve also haven’t had a period in almost three years but I’ve had discharge as well no spotting not even a little but an I’ve gained a lil weight but not as much as I’d like anyways I hope ...
to hear more comments about this and if some of you women end of getting it removed I hope you all share your experience an the doctors comments thanks everyone have a good day .
I've had the rod for 10yrs. I have had one surgery already to remove mass amounts of scaring from my ovaries. I haven't had a period in almost a year. I have been dealing with severe right side ovary pain which has stumped my surgeons. I never thought it could be because of the rod. But reading everyone's responses has made me think twice. I've had really bad mood swings and gained almost 70lbs in 6 months with no explanation. Hot flashes and cold sweats have been a regular thing for the past few years. My Dr is saying due to the scaring I may never get pregnant again. I have not been able to get pregnant since I had my son in 2008. I see my surgeon tomorrow and will be bringing this up as I feel it may have something to do with my symptoms. I've been in and out of the hospital over 20times this year in reguards to the pain. If my surgeon agrees I will let everyone know.
I have had my implant in since march 2015 the morning after I had my son it ran out in march 2018 I've been trying for another baby and I'm scared that because I haven't haven't had it removed yet that I can't get pregnant although the it ran out for last 2/3 months.. can I still get pregnant although the it's still in but expired couple months ago ? I'm desparetky wanting a baby again and trying
I had my in for 5 year just had it removed. The doctors says it still works up to 4 years. So if you want a baby I would get it removed. I have been trying for a year now (while it was still in) zero luck!
Did you ever get pregnant. I am 8 months past due on having my Nexplanon removed an am currently trying to have another baby ... Is it possible to get pregnant with it still in my arm iv read so many things an i just want a baby ...
I got my implant in in august 2012. It was suppose to be taken out in 2015 but lost medical insurance. Since then I'm about to remarry, I am having dizzy spells, late periods and weird periods. I have been contiplating on getting it taken out. Don't have the money to get it out. Any ideas what I can do. Want to have kids but can't.
Yes but what if your not having one or haven't in 3 years and still have it
If it's available in your area Planned Parenthood does this service (implanting & removal) as well as many other services free of charge. There should also be other birth control methods besides the arm implant if you're interested in trying something different.
I had my implanon in for 6 years. 3 years longer than I should have. I got sick and tired of it, and I didn't have insurance or money to get it removed, and I wanted another baby. I cut it out myself (possible but not for the faint of heart and not recommended) I got pregnant in 6 months and I'm now 15 weeks prego. I am 40 and was 40 when I conceived.
I've had mine in 8 years now it must still be working as I've not gotten pregnant
Are you wanting to conceive eventually? I’m scared leaving it in so
Long has made me infertile x
I've still not caught do still have my implant in though do you still have yours in?
I’m getting taken out at 11.00am today :) have you heard anything about it effecting future fertility leaving it in so long?
no I haven't I'm scared to get mine out
My sister is way past her time of having it removed like 4yrs past due and she is getting ready to have her 2nd baby with it in. I had it also i had the 5 yr one and had it removed on my 5 yr date. After that i was not fertile then 2 yrs later i got pregnant after trying for 3 yrs then miscarried. So i kept trying after that then june of 2016 i had to have a hysterectomy at age 34. Due to pcos caused by this. So i think it just depends on the person on what will happen.
I have had my Implanon in for 5 years now. The last 8 months I have suffered with anxiety, sleepless nights (not even a wink) my mood swings are of the scale I’m either mad to the point I can not control myself even if I know what I’m doing isn’t right! Or I’m crying. I’ve also gained 2 stone in weight.
I have suffered with spurts of dizziness, I thought i had vertigo but it turns out it’s my implant.
Although it has ran out, there are still hormones in the rod which are realised spontaneously rather than how it should be. My hormone balance is all Ove the place. I thought I may have an under active thyroid turns out it’s just the Implanon
i have had mine in for 8 almost 9 years im scared to get it removed and i havbent gotten pregnant bu t did miscarry
I am so glad I came across your comment! I am in the exact same situation, with the exact same symptoms! I've had my Implanon in for the same amount of time, and for the past 6 months or so I have had bad anxiety, sleepless nights, restlessness, dizzy spells, mood changes, and weight gain. I am going to make an appointment next week to get mine out. I searched all over the web and didn't find any of the similar symptoms relating to the implant but I just knew something was off balance and my husband suggested it was the implant. Did you get yours out? If so did you notice a change instantly or?
Mine has just now expired this month so ive had it in for 3 years. For the past 6 months ive had increased anxiety and frequent vertigo spells especially the day before my period, during and a few days after. Terrible mood changes. I just feel frustrated all the time. During my 3 years on nexplanon ive had very irregular periods but the past 2 months they have gone back to my regular cycle. Did you have your nexplanon removed and if so did your symptoms of anxiety and vertigo go away or decrease? I am miserable and plan to have it taken out in the next 2 weeks.
Omg! I have the same issues. I did blood work, checked if maybe I had diabetes, or thyroid issues. I have horrible anxiety, and dizziness. I am getting mine changed out today and I am so relieved someone else is experiencing the same issues. I thought I was going crazy, and I thought maybe it's my implant.
I had my Nexplanon removed April 30, 2018 and everything has gradually improved except for the anxiety. It’s not as bad but it’s still there. I had my thyroid tested too with negative results. I ended up in the ER soon after my first comment. I suddenly started sweating and feeling like I was going to pass out (weak and dizzy), my heart then started racing and I started having a panic attack. The Er doctor diagnosed me with BPPV and said I needed a referral to an ENT. I don’t believe that’s what it is because I get random vertigo spells and the spells never seem to be connected with any movement. Even if it were BPPV that only explains the dizzy spells but not the random sweating and hot flash feelings. Nor the panic attacks. So far, since having it removed, I haven’t had the random sweating spells or hot flashes. I’m hoping the anxiety leaves too.
I’m also still waiting on my first period since having it out, it is due in 9 days so we will see. I usually have the vertigo spells the day before my period starts. Oh and the week before during and after my period I have severe brain fog and depersonalization feelings. I have never dealt with any of this before getting the Nexplanon. I will never get anything implanted into my body again and I’m currently birth control free to give my body a chance to detox from it to see if Nexplanon was the problem. I hope everyone is feeling better. This is certainly no way to live!
I replaced my expired implanon with a new one hoping my anxiety and dizziness would go away. It has not. I get horrible anxiety a week before my period. And the dizziness is all the time. I noticed it's a lot more severe right before my period. My mood swings have been crazy and now I am starting to experience insomnia at night. I never had issues sleeping. The worst symptom is the anxiety hands down. My vision becomes intensely bright, my heart races, and I begin thinking and worrying about everything. Which causes me to worry that my anxiety will not go away. I am getting my implanon removed this month. I hope my body and brain go back to normal. Has your anxiety gone away?
Omg..For the last 2 weeks I have been suffering with dizzy spells, feeling weak, anxiety attacks, heart racing... I went to the ER and they said my Blood pressure was high..I have been taking my medicine for BP and I'm still having these symptoms. My Nexplanon expired six months ago. I never considered that to be the issue until reading these posts
I had my Nexplanon removed at the end of April and I am still dealing with the anxiety. Dizzy spells a lot. It’s way worse the week before my period. I’ve also been dealing with insomnia recently and I’ve never had that problem! Also, my periods since coming off of Nexplanon have been scary heavy!! I’ve had 3 “normal” periods since having Nexplanon removed.
my impalnt expired on the 17th of this month and the mood swings have been horrible, i have anxiety as well and its been 10 times worse since ive had my implant. i broke down crying to my mother about how i didnt want it anymore... the weight gain has been horrible as well, im ready to get it out...
Im so happy i came access this comments I feel exactly the same thing I even thought that maybe it was something else I’m a couple of months past due to take it of actually I was supposed to remove it in may but due to covid I have to wait until November 1srt to take it out The doctor told me to let my body to rest a little bit before I do a new bioethics control I was wondering to know if My postpartum depression was because of this too it’s crazy because I never felt I was myself. I have all your symptoms and my feet get swollen sometimes. I just want it to be remove and to use it again in my life
I have had my old implant in for almost 10 years. I have a daughter who is 17 months. I have also had a second implant put in after she was born. It had been to long to take the first out but I am definitely going to make sure I get this one removed.
I don't think it makes any difference to Getting pregnant after it has run out but it can cause soreness / discomfort to your arm but I am not a Dr.
So you can get pregnant after it expires? It took you a few years to get pregnant after the expiration right?
I should have had mine removed in 2015, so it has been expired for 2 years. I got divorced and lost my insurance for a while due to that and a mistake with my employee benefits enrollment, so I did not get it removed when it expired. Then I just forgot about it. The only thing I have noticed is that I still have not gotten a period. I started to get the brown mucusy period type thing, but I stopped getting it after 3 months or so. I do have insurance now, but haven't gone to the doctor yet. I will probably leave it in, unless the doctor says it is giving me cancer or something. I am not sexually active or trying to ever get pregnant again, so I don't know about fertility issues.
Hello. My name is Lisa and I have a seven year old son. Three weeks after his birth in 2010 I received the Implanon. It is now 2017 and I still have the same insert in my arm... im trying to get pregnant and nothing is working. Is it my implant? Because it should be YEARS empty.
I have had mine in for 10 years. They couldn't find it when I went to get it removed from 3 different doctors. The last one I went to said it wouldn't hurt leaving it in, but now I'm scared. I'm sure I would have to have surgery to get it out. I am also wondering if pregnancy is possible with the stick still in my arm.

Hello. My name is Lisa. I was reading the comments and yours stuck out the most. I had my daughter in 2010. I got my implonnon 6 weeks after she was born. I still have mine and was wondering if you ever got yours out?

Hello ladies,I had my implanon placed when my son was 6 mos. (April 2011) and here it is November of 2018 and its still in the same place in my arm to this day lol just got an appointment for removal on Nov,19,2018 and I will be back to let you all know how it went.
Hey I've had mine in for over 9 years and I been trying to get pregnant I have a appointment on November 19 2018 hopefully I can get it removed!
I just had my implanon removed today. The three years expired in March this year and it is now almost October. It was slightly difficult for the dr to get out and he kept commenting on how soft and floppy the microfibre rod had become. It was very uncomfortable having it removed and he needed a nurse there to help him stretch my skin whilst he tried to remove the implanon. I would definitely recommend removing it as soon as you can.
As far I know there are no long term affects and leaving an implanon in will in no way leave you infertile. All the hormones inside have left after three years. The only harm is that there is the risk of it mislodging or moving around or being more 'stuck' behind the layers of skin if that makes sense.
Did u get it out mines has expired too and I'm scared cuz I heard it can make u sick and die so I'm trying to figure it out too
Here's another option. Planned parenthood. It can become "grown in" and have to removed surgically if left in too long. It also could move and need surgery to take it out. The hormones decrease and are gone so I don't see how it can do damage other then that.
